Reviews for Merrill Gardens at Burien

Warm Staff, Costly, Mixed Communication

Merrill Gardens at Burien consistently earns praise for its friendly, attentive staff who know residents by name, clean and well-maintained facilities, and robust activity programming that keeps residents engaged. However, several reviewers found the community too expensive for their budget, and one family reported deeply disappointing experiences around end-of-life care, including insensitive handling of a resident's death and complete lack of follow-up from management. The facility appears newer with restaurant-style dining and spacious apartments, though some early visitors noted an institutional feel with strong disinfectant odors.

Merrill Gardens Burien is a warm and welcoming community, and I'm so happy that my mom has settled in here. The staff is kind and skilled, her apartment is beautiful, and I know that she is being well taken care of. The public spaces are always buzzing with activity and laughter, it's wonderful. I feel lucky that she lives there.

Excellent staff at MG Burien! Everyone we've encountered has always been friendly and attentive to our needs. Good food too!

Merrill Gardens in Burien has interesting activities for the residents. Last year I was invited to a wonderful 4th of July Marimba steel band concert and lunch. I taught school in the Highline School District, which surrounds the Burien area. Today there was a farmer’s market with fun activities for families and children.

LOCATION! With the farmers market basically in their back yard and walking distance to all the wonderful family owned and operated bussinesses in Burien's revitalized downtown this is a wonderful Senior Living Community.

Merrill Gardens in Burien is a wonderful community. I feel good about my mother living here. The staff know residents names and engage with them daily. The residents are open to making new friends and bringing others into activities. It is clean and well managed. My Mom has been a resident here for almost 4 years.

As a hospice provider for Merrill Gardens in Burien, I can’t say enough good about this community! Their Resident Care Manager James Nyoro is fantastic along with the rest of the staff. If you want to live to one of the best communities go see Rita Community Relations Director, she will make your move seemless. I love Merrill Communities 💕

Our family had an in person tour and it was not a bad experience it was really good, we just felt at the end of the day it was not the place for our loved one.

Our family had an in person tour and it was a good overall tour experience but location was very important to us so ultimately this community was not going to be suitable for our loved one.

We toured with Merrill Gardens at Burien and found the facility to feel very institutional. When we walked in we got the strong odor or disinfectant and alcohol. The people were all very nice but it was not going to be a good fit.

I chose Merrill Gardens because I checked several other places and it was by far the best. I have a 2 bedroom and it is very large. I have seen the 1 bedrooms and studios and they seem to be a good size as well. There is social hours in Fridays and they have other socials in between, so there is a lot of chance for engagement between residents. I would recommend to others looking.

I have visited Merrill Gardens twice and my mother is preparing to move in there this month. As a healthcare provider who has done extensive research on local assisted livings I just want to say that so far I have been impressed. I even spoke to 3 current residents and they each expressed that this was a good place. I appreciate the work and precautions they have put in to place to protect the staff and residents, and unfortunately there are people who will think that being conservative in respo

Merrill Gardens is not giving residents adequate information on the risks of the Covid vaccine and is using coercion to gain compliance. My grandmother did not want the shot, but took it anyway because it was the only way she would be allowed to see her family, as per Merrill Gardens policies. Oh and residents still have to wear masks because the shot doesn't prevent transmission. Go figure.

It is excellent here. Everyone is friendly and easy to get along with, staff and residents included.. The staff are very helpful and they do a good job cleaning. They are really great. I just enjoy living here. They offer all varieties of food. I would say that the food is average but not gourmet. They offer a lot of menu options as well. I chose this community because it was relatively new and it is in an excellent location in downtown Burien with shops and restaurants in walking di

Beautiful facility but assisted living caregivers lack sufficient training.

My mother lived at Burien Merrill Gardens for about 9 months before she passed away in January. While the common areas and rooms are very nice and new, I found many things to be average or disappointing. The meals were average. The activities were average. The staff – other than a couple people – were disappointing (unfriendly, over-worked, aloof at times). Most disappointing, however, was the handling of my mother’s death. We did not receive any card, note, or call to express sympathy (suc

I toured this facility while looking for a place for my loved one. I feel like this is a good corporation and the building itself was nice. The person who gave me the tour was friendly and knowledgeable. Even after I toured this facility, I received an email inviting me to a seminar for caregivers. I thought that was a really great thing. However, I didn’t pick this community because of the location and the cost. I would recommend other families to tour this facility.

This place was brand new when I took a tour. They offer independent living, assisted living, and memory care. It seemed to be a pretty active place. When I toured, there were people in the lobby reading and chatting with each other and it just seemed like it was the type of place where things actually happen. The marketing person that gave me the tour was very nice and was able to answer all of my questions. The cleanliness was very good and the food looked good as well. The dining room looked m

Merrill Gardens has been very positive so far for my father. The place is brand new, only 6 or 7 months old, and they work very hard to keep up the new appearance. The grounds and the inside are kept very tidy. The meals are great, the staff is friendly and accommodating, and they have plenty of activities to keep residents busy like arts, crafts, a movie theatre, and a van for off campus trips. It is also centrally located and just a five minute walk from places like the drugstore and the libra

This looked like a fabulous community when I toured it. The people I met were nice. This community does have some nice common areas and they seem to offer some nice activities. This community was a little more expensive than what we were looking for.
