Reviews for Sunrise of Mercer Island

Beautiful Facility, Inconsistent Care

Vineyard Park (Bonaventure) shows a starkly divided reputation. Recent positive reviews praise specific staff members (Sanchal, Bonnie, Angel) for compassionate dementia care, reasonable pricing, and a warm community atmosphere. However, multiple critical reviews reveal serious operational problems: chronic understaffing, high turnover, inconsistent food quality, unfulfilled housekeeping promises, and—most concerning—incidents of severe neglect including bedridden residents left unattended and failure to recognize basic medical issues like UTIs. Older reviews under the Sunrise name show similar patterns of care lapses and medication errors. Families consistently note the facility looks beautiful but execution falls short, with corporate management blamed for prioritizing appearance over actual care delivery.

I liked Bonaventure of Maple Valley, and I was going to sign up and put my brother there. They told me what the price would be, which was fine. Then I went back a couple of days later to do the paperwork, and they changed the price on me. It nearly doubled, and it upset me. It's a fairly new place, and it looked nice and clean. They had everything. It would have been a place to go, but when somebody tells me that they're going to do it for a certain price, I take their word for it. I

My Dad stayed here on the assisted living floor for a 30 day respite stay last summer(2025). He has Alzheimer's and we made it very clear to the staff that he could still do many basic things by himself but that he would need to be checked on frequently and possibly need prompting on things like using the bathroom. They assured us that they understood what we meant and that they could handle this just fine. Well, they could not. A couple of days into his stay he fell in his room and hit his hea

I have family there. I have witnessed the food served there to the residents. Awful. We bring our own food to our loved one. The health department should know about this

My wife, who has severe dementia, has been a resident for two years. I am pleased with the facility and the staff for providing excellent care of her. The entire staff is outstanding but I have been especially impressed with Sanchal Orso, the Health and Wellness Coordinator. My wife's mental and medical issues, including incontinence, are challenging but Sanchal's excellent management of caregivers and nursing staff has insured that the highest standards of cleanliness and care are maintained. My 98 year old mother has lived in two other assisted living facilities before coming to Vineyard Park. The level of personalized care she receives there gives us peace of mind. The pricing is also quite reasonable compared to other facilities in the area. We’re very happy we made the move.

Did not take care of my mother at all, left her in bed all day, then once she deteriorated due to their lack of care, they said they couldn’t accept her back into the facility. Failures all around, avoid at all costs

My brother has been a resident of Vineyard Park since February 2025. He loves living there, especially the many, many activities. The staff is always friendly and helpful and I want to express my appreciation especially for Sanchal, Bonnie and Angel (and all the other staff). Thank-you!

Warm and welcoming community with a real sense of family dynamics. Dedicated team of staff who show true commitment to caring for residents and each other. I would highly recommend vineyard park Mercer Island to care for your loved one.

This place is absolutely amazing in the tour there was stunning apartments a indor golf range a salon a library and so much more i definitely enjoyed this place the residents and staff were so lovely

The facility is lovely, new and very well appointed. Rooms are very nice. Lots of activities to choose from and a lot of different things. Currently, they are doing a dog training program for the residents.

They have high turnover in staff. The food is mediocre to bad. The services promised/paid for are not consistently delivered (such as weekly housekeeping / sheets+towels) for those without in-unit laundry, there have been issues with common area machines not working for an extended period (they've been open less than 2 years). They are a lot of talk about the parties and food, with limited actual results. Here's an example: the food offered did not look appetizing - resident ordered a hot dog of

Ultimately the most important thing for assisted living is the quality of care. Bonaventure's care staff never took the time or interest to get to know my mom who transitioned from another facility. The relationship between her and the caregivers was never established. Even when she returned back to Bonaventure from the hospital, they showed no interest in why she was in the hospital and how she transitioned back to assisted living from a hospital setting. My last interaction with staff was

Our experience with Bonaventure was very good. The communication with Gary was excellent and he was very good with followup. He encouraged us to spend as much time as possible at the facility, including multiple meals. They sent us invites to their special events. They went out of their way to hold a room until Mom could decide for sure she wanted to make the move, and offered move in tips. Since she moved in there have been some staffing hiccups. It seems maintenance behind, but it appears they

We have had the opportunity to attend multiple family and friends activities. They have all been well organized and attended by residents and family. Some of our favorites have been an outing to the local high school’s musical, a resident run dog show, petting zoo at the Easter egg hunt and a Super Bowl party. My family is always happy when we get to go spend our time with the residents and staff here.

Every morning, you wake up my entire family with different loud noises. These days, it’s the metal ladder! Stop making so much noise! The metal ladder, which a man climbs up and down starting at 7 AM, creaks and rattles every second. It’s extremely disturbing and makes it impossible to sleep. Please do something about it!!

It's fairly new so always some bugs to work out. Staff is great although lots of turnover it seems. Food is excellent. Rooms very nice. Management is very responsive and involved and friendly.

AnonymousJuly 14, 2025

It is a community. Residents and resident families all look out for each other. However, family has to be present and involved to advocate for the residents. Care/ activities/ management is very inconsistent. Food is also very inconsistent.

The apartment was nice, bright light, full kitchen and W/D in room. Food was TERRIBLE, way TOO much fat and grease, carbohydrates and fillers like flour in the meatballs, meatloaf. House keeping was not done properly, FILTHY cleaning, so I had to clean. We lasted eight months and moved. Executives kept saying "It's corporate issued ". Nothing ever changed. Almost everyone didn't like the food. When we moved, four other people moved to where we are now. Some people had moved out but now I kn

We've chosen Bonaventure of Maple Valley because they had immediate availability of a two-bedroom unit in assisted living, and other places had a waiting list. Another reason is the explanation of services provided. They use a level plan instead of a menu plan where you have to choose. They explained the services that you'd be getting for a certain price. The staff was very nice. I've chosen the two-bedroom, two-bath with real good views. There are so many amenities. I liked that

It was difficult committing my sweetheart of 35 years to a memory care facility, but after a short transition period, I realized it was the best choice for everyone. My sweetheart had primary progressive aphasia that had robbed her of her voice and comprehension, but the staff at the Vineyard Park treated her wonderfully. They showed patience, compassion and a loving attitude toward her. The meals were nutrtitionally prepared and adapted to her eating style. The facility was clean, and the st

The facility is new and clean and staff are friendly people who seem to genuinely care. Mom feels safe and we feel she is safe which is of paramount importance for us. The rooms are not fully occupied which means the facility is not fully staffed and many of the housekeeping and food service employees are new. Service is lacking in those areas. They had turnover in with the Chef and we are not pleased with the quality of the daily specials. Basics, like a cheeseburger, are fine. Overall it

We moved my mom to room 115 after lots of tears and trusting Vineyard Park on 9/27/24. She was assessed in person by Shannon and Edzel and we were assured that my mom will be in great hands. We were transparent about mom’s situation and handed them every paper and document they asked us. In less than a few days we noticed a huge lack of assistance for mom and started communicating her needs to the nurse and the caregivers assuming that they would understand. These issues included not showering h

My family recently made the difficult decision to move my mother into Vineyard Assisted Living, and I want to share our experience to help others avoid what we went through. When we first visited, we were welcomed by Shannon, the marketing manager, who was warm, energetic, and made several promises about the high level of care they would provide for our mom. She assured us that the staff would go above and beyond to take care of our beloved one. After an assessment by their head nurse, they con

At first glance, the facility is beautiful and new. The sales team was friendly and accommodating. But that all changed once we moved into the facility. They immediately raised the price [fee removed] in the first month. They were grossly understaffed. We wound up doing basic things like laundry and linens as they were not being tended to. Packages were not being received or being stolen. It was all around a bad situation and I regret making the choice to move my mother to the facility

Do not like the activities person and the activities are not executed well. Just not set up yet. However, based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to other families.

I toured Bonaventure of Maple Valley. It's brand new. The apartments were beautiful. The kitchen was gorgeous. It's just a very nice facility. I've had food there. It's satisfactory, but not the best, I think, and was not a good place for my dog as having our own yard, front and back at the other facility. The staff was wonderful. The room size was very nice. I felt very welcome. It's a beautiful place. The staff was nice, friendly, accommodating, and answered questions.

Run like a large corporation. Employee behave like they're being micro-managed. Always short staffed and revolving door of personnel. Paying for parking but no spots has been assigned. Housekeeping hasn't happened (supposed to be weekly) Gossip is that they're in financial trouble.

Bonnaventure has many facilities in US The Maple Valley Wa. Location is the newest in the Northwest, its a beautiful building that offers Independent, Assisted Living and Memory care living. They offer many amenities for active senior citizens. BEWARE if you want to transfer your loved ones to a Bonnaventure facility closer to you for care. Beautiful facility. Buyer beware for Memory Care. Spent a month working with this facility. Knowing that they still did not have State approval for occupancy in Memory Care. Did my walk through, placed a deposit, them knowing the level of care my mom was, her Assessment completed at her current facility hoping to not burn bridges, approving the care plan, being asked to bring in her POA 2 hrs before Dallas the Executive Director called me to say she didn’t qualify. Sunrise of Mercer Island is like a big, warm hug. You can feel the compassion that the staff has for the residents as soon as you walk into the building, and the care provided is second to none. I take great comfort knowing that those who live here are well taken care of and happy within their home.

My father-in-law is a very tough cookie and we weren't sure if he was going to be comfortable in an assisted living facility. Dad moved in and after two weeks, he had settled in and Sunrise was his new home. The staff and team are so respectful and caring, Cindy and I don’t worry about him knowing that he is in good hands.

My dad knew when he walked in for the first visit that Sunrise of Mercer Island was where he wanted to be. He often says Sunrise is his home and the residents and staff are his family. His joy is strong and consistent. He often says of Sunrise “it just gets better and better.” He loves the diversity of the staff and learning about where they’re from. He loves the food and the activities. The community surrounding Sunrise of Mercer Island is amazing and my dad loves the views and his walks on the

They had a really thoughtful and full welcoming and transition approach. They really took the time to understand what my mom needed, and they have tweaked things along the way based on what she needs. The facility is great as well. It's clean and meets her needs. There are a variety of activities and places for Mom to do things or hang out and be social. One unique feature that we were looking for and found at Sunrise Mercer Island is a secured assisted living facility. So Mom, at an early

A pretty location and nice building but their nursing staff needs to be overhauled. Our parent was very close to being diagnosed with sepsis (life threatening/rapid death) while in their care from an undiagnosed UTI. Come on people you know the signs of an UTI (or at least you should). There are other options on Mercer now. We moved our parent out of this facility.

R TimberlineNovember 5, 2021

We moved our parent out of Sunrise Mercer Island. Poor management of prescription drug dispensing, poor communication with families to name just a few. Thank goodness there is now another choice on Mercer Island for Assisted Living and Memory Care.

My mother moved into Sunrise of Mercer Island in March of 2020 right at the beginning of the pandemic. It was a scary time for her because of dementia and a debilitating stroke. From the moment she moved in everyone at Sunrise was so kind and caring. They were very transparent with Covid updates and precautions they were taking. I felt very comfortable calling them at any time for updates on my mom’s care. Sunrise set up group conference calls for anyone that wanted to join in and talk abou

Sunrise of Mercer Island was recommended to me by a friend who happens to work for a senior placement company called 'A Place for Mom'. In addition, a friend of my wife had used Sunrise of Mercer Island to provide care for her aging mother, and she said that there care there had been excellent. My impressions are that all of the staff here are friendly, knowledgeable, and very competent care providers. The apartments are clean, and there is a robust activity schedule for my dad. Everyone

We reluctantly had to move our mom to an assisted living facility after being in her home for nearly 70 years. This place just felt right from the moment we made our first contact to inquire about moving mom there. We definitely made the right choice. The staff at Sunrise Mercer Island made the move so easy, even during the COVID pandemic, and our mom has actually said she's "having a ball!" Every time I talk with her on the phone she mentions how wonderful and nice the staff is, and my sibl

We are writing this review so that others looking for assisted living facilities for their patents can have the following information. It is our opinion that this facility is not what it once was…. Our parent went from an extremely healthy, mobile individual to a person who could not hold their head up and could not walk a few steps and therefore was in a wheelchair in a matter of weeks. It turns out this was completely unnecessary and could have been avoided. It turns out that Sunrise

This seemed like a lovely community and the staff seemed attentive. Recently, however there was an incident that I must report in order to warn of my worry for the safety at Sunrise. A friend of mine, who has been here for a few months, was recently attacked and hit by another patient. He could not defend himself because he is in a wheel chair. The man who hit my friend is remaining in the facility and so my friend is having to leave. I am very disappointed and would not recommend this faci

I can’t say enough nice things about Sunrise. We went through a very difficult time with my father and his condition changed quickly. They always adapted to our personal needs, never made us feel like a burden, and I never felt alone. Once my dad passed on, the manager came to his room with me personally and helped me go through his belongings. It was very kind of her to know the grief I was in. It’s a tough time and their staff understands this. I can’t say I’d want to go through this again but

It was a nice tour and we were stuck between them and another place. It is a big facility for the residents. She would of had a little apartment. It is more of a community living. We were looking for more care and felt that it would not have been the best fit. I would absolutely recommend them to family and friends.

This facility is a mess right now. My mother has lived there for more than 4 years, and their care has continued to get worse each year, while the price continues to rise faster than inflation. The facility is run somewhat like a hotel. What this means is that the building *looks* nice. The food is good, and the cosmetic details are well-attended. This gives the impression of a properly-managed assisted living facility. Unfortunately, the aspect that makes the largest difference to seniors w

The staff is wonderful! They take excellent care of my mother and I am very happy with her care . I do not agree that everything is covered in the cost of the room, though- which is extremely expensive. You pay a cable bill, which to me is just silly- for the cost at thevery least throw in the cable ! Then the cost of care is adjusted as your parent gets more needy- also you pay a daily med fee. It's all in the monthly total, but it will go up unless your parent gets less dependent. Sunrise is
