Reviews for Brookdale West Seattle

Caring Staff, Troubling Price Hikes

Brookdale West Seattle receives overwhelmingly positive reviews for its caring, attentive staff who know residents by name and create a warm family atmosphere. The facility offers spacious apartments with great views, good food (though some find it bland), and robust activities. However, multiple families report steep rent increases (20%+ annually versus promised 7%), poor communication from management, disorganization especially during move-in, and concerns that the facility prioritizes revenue over residents—issues that have driven some families to consider leaving despite generally satisfied residents.

So far I would say the rooms of my apartment (one bedroom) are awesome. Both have 18 foot ceilings. High Windows. High ceiling fan. I'm on sixth floor so I have a great view of Seattle skyline. It's across the street from a golf course so there is a lot of greenery. The staff has been extremely friendly and helpful. All the way from the director to kitchen staff, servers, maintenance and housekeeping.

Has the pleasure being with my sister her first 4 days at Brookdale. Found the staff pleasant and informative and always with a positive attitude. Looking forward to getting to spend more time with Barb in December!

I moved my mother who has dementia in here about 2 weeks ago. My mother is REAL pain. However so far I'm not impressed. Very disorganized. Lack of communication. You ask for something like knobs for you're loved ones room and good luck getting follow through for days. I've been asking for a garage clicker for a week now with now follow through. At least three "need to knows" we're addressed to me in passing as oh by the way, which is not professional. They can't seem to get my mom's name spel

I found the best when my daughter found this place for me! The administration and staff are way beyond good, they become like my extended family! Their dedication to meeting our needs, going way beyond expectations and making a bad day so much better is part of every day that I've experienced here! I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!!!!

I am very pleased about how everyone is so friendly! The opportunity to ask for anything from books to read to help if I fall or become ill. I am happy here.

The facilities are top-notch, with beautiful grounds, modern amenities, and a wide range of engaging activities. Residents enjoy a vibrant, social atmosphere and the peace of mind that comes from knowing their needs are met. The facility is clean, warm, and quite satisfactory, and rooms are cleaned weekly professionally. Food is delicious and timely, never heard unkind words or been treated roughly. Very helpful when needed. Know us by our name.

This has been my home for the past 8 years and even with changes in staff over these eight years, I'm very happy here. Everyone is like family and congenial. I'm content.

I have enjoyed my 2 years stay at Brookdale. Everything has certainly met my needs. I really like my 2 bedroom apartment and the the friendliness of all the staff.

I am absolutely amazed by the staff and director here. I've worked in a few facilities. In comparison, the staff have really made this place feel like a warm & loving family community.

Clean safe place to live with lots of people to help me when I need it. The meals are really good. Lots of things to do. Very good library with lots of books.

Exceeded my expectations. Lives up to the label "community ". My mom felt very comfortable from the moment she first set foot there.

I have found Brookdale West Seattle a very good place to live. I feel I get a lot of value here and all my needs are met. I can't say enough good things about the whole staff - they really care about the people they serve.

I feel overall the prices for these places are too high, but i get it. My Mom is very happy there. What resonates with me is how open and accepting and welcoming everyone is. Both staff and residents. We would absolutely recommend the Brookdale West Seattle community to other families based on the experience we have had.

Assisted living at Brookdale has been WONDERFUL for my sister in law who had formerly been isolated and depressed. Living among people who care for her like family and socialization with other residents has made all the difference in returning her joy in life.

My mom has been disappointed in the food. Too bland, not organic and too much chicken As for activities, sadly the turnover has impacted the activities as well as mechanical and other issues with the van. This has been a real ongoing challenge

Brookdale’s main concern is squeezing as much money out of its residence and their families as possible. My father’s rent has increased 20% in just over a year even though we were assured prior to moving in that increases would be no more than 7% annually. And the management team uses all sorts of deceptive practices to hide their outrageous price hikes. I do not recommend this facility and wish I had never brought my father here.

This is the second year in a row that they have raised the rent over $500 per month. They already price gouge elderly people, but now they are trying to make up lost revenue from residents that moved out during the pandemic by raising the remaining resident's rent at an absurd rate! My father's rent is now $4,560 per month for independent living for a one bedroom, which means he receives no help, other than two meals per day. With my father having dementia he cannot even afford to get the help o

We had a great experience in the beginning but as soon as we signed and they moved in, there was no orientation and no communication. Their business negations have a lot to be desired. We just got a notice that the price is going way up and they have only been here for a few months. It is not clear to us how often they are able to raise the prices so we are starting to look elsewhere.

There are a lot of activities for the residents to participate in. There aren't a lot of cliques, and there are more women than men here. It is a friendly atmosphere. The food is pretty good. They have transportation, but it is very limited and won't work for everybody. The Habit and other food locations are close by.

We toured Brookdale and it seemed like a great facility. We did not choose it because it was too big for our liking and the location was further from family.

They're very friendly. I think the staff is good about getting to know each resident. The food is good. They do a pretty good job to offer a variety of dishes, and the flavor profile and preparation is good. They also offer lots of alternative choices, more per day than I've seen at other places. As far as the extra care services, I feel like you have to be extra vigilant to make sure your loved one's care plan is implemented the way you want it to be. Consistency has been lacking lately.

I had a very productive and helpful conversation with [name removed] at Brookdale. She answered many questions for me and I feel I can call her and ask more if I need to. We haven't visited yet, but I feel like we may not need to given how [name removed] was able to explain so much.

Brookdale West Seattle's new management is terrific. They proactively respond to residents with kindness and respect. The dining room is airy and beautiful and the rooftop deck is a big plus. The nursing staff is responsive to emergencies and everyday issues and don't nickel and dime residents for bandaids. We looked at all the assisted living facilities in West Seattle and this was the best for my mom. It's an easy location for commuters dropping by to see their parents after work. Neighborhood

This looked like a clean nice community when we visited. The people we met were nice. This community is close to shopping, restaurants & local parks.

My dad is fine we are happy with the staff and experience so far. All experiences after one month are fine except for the only negative experience which was related to the wheel chair. I am not familiar with wheel chairs and bought a transport one. After my dad was living there for 2 weeks they told him suddenly that wheel chair was too hard to push. They had his meal brought up to his room because of that. I resolved this problem by replacing the transport wheel chair with a standard one. They

The Brookdale West Seattle was fine. The reason we did not chose them was because when we toured, the room that they had available was on the assisted living side and we wanted to be in the independant living side. Also, it had an institutional feel to it.

The staff at the Brookdale have been great to my mother. They are very caring and accommodating, everyone knows everyone's name. So, if my mother is walking down the hall, they will greet her by her first name. The meals are good, but it is institutional food since they have to cook for so many people. She wishes they had more options for vegetables. My mother had a stomach ache on Christmas eve so she called to see if they could deliver her some medicine. The guy that usually goes was home wit

Loved the people here. Location is way too difficult to get to. Community was good. Very expensive, no medicaid

I toured a number of places before knowing this was the right one for my dad. So far I'm really happy that we've placed him at Brookdale of West Seattle Of all the places I toured, Brookdale facilities were at the top of my list so would recommend touring and of them. The staff are caring, know the residents and their families and always make us feel welcome.

I am currently happily living at Brookdale West Seattle. They do an excellent job of taking care of me as well as my cat when I have had to leave her with them. They respond very well to all of my questions and suggestions, more than I would have expected. The food is very good as well. I am very pleased to live here.

AnonymousFebruary 6, 2015

I have been a resident here for a little bit, and it is well worth the money. Staff will go out of their way to entertain the us, and the food is also very good. The community is well worth what I am paying, in fact it is cheaper than the last place I lived. I am very happy and content here.

AnonymousDecember 19, 2014

The only thing I would like to see in terms of improvement would be to have more variety of activities. Other than that they have been great. Everyone I have come in contact there has been super friendly and helpful. The main thing that my dad loves and raves about every day is the food.

This is a beautiful retirement community! They offer the care my mom needs in the future. The apartments were spacious and the price was competative and in most cases less than the other places I've looked at. I felt like my mom would be safe and well taken care of. We ate lunch and the food was fantastic, the staff was friendly and really paid attention to what my mom needed. This place has move to the top of our list!

Very nice facility. Choices include apartments with small patios, pots to grow things. People were nice and residents seemed well cared for. Gym facilities. Only concern is entrance is unloacked.
