Reviews for Empress Senior Living at Laurelhurst

Beautiful Facility, Divisive Care

Empress Senior Living shows a stark divide in experiences. Multiple families praise the warm, attentive staff (especially wellness director Heather), excellent food, beautiful boutique design, and engaging activities in a well-maintained building. However, serious allegations surface repeatedly: untrained care staff with long response times, missing belongings including jewelry from memory care residents, and concerns about a wellness director's nursing license history. Several reviewers warn families to check state inspection reports and consider other options.

STAFF: I would divide administrative and support. I can't count the times I have been touched when seeing Support staff in the 'gathering' room when passing by a resident just reach out and give a comforting pat or little shoulder rub. So caring and affectionate, reassuring and comforting. I've taken a few meals there and found them very tasty, so the unseen cooks floors below are doing a great job as well. Empress Senior Living is a beautiful, boutique-style community in Laurelhurst that feels more like an upscale hotel than a traditional senior living community—while still being very reasonably priced. The location is outstanding, with a Metropolitan Market across the street and some of Seattle’s best parks and walking trails nearby. The food is excellent as well—especially the breakfast burritos. The staff is consistently friendly and welcoming, and there is always something engaging happening

I couldn't ask for a better community for my loved one! Empress Senior Living is more than just a senior living facility - it's a family. The staff are warm, caring, and truly dedicated to providing exceptional care. The activities and events are engaging and fun, and my loved one is always looking forward to the next outing or gathering. It's clear that the team at Empress Senior Living genuinely cares about the residents' well-being and happiness. I highly recommend Empress Senior Living to an

I am sorry that Monica and Jennifer didn't have a good experience at Empress. We have had 2 family members at Empress and, despite challenges that impact all senior living facilities, I can say unequivocally that the patience, attentiveness, and caring of staff members and care providers is first rate. They have also been responsive to concerns of families of Empress residents and have afforded a level of comfort to my family in knowing that our loved ones will get good care--even when we can'

I made the biggest mistake moving my mom here. The care staff are lazy, not trained, don’t respond to residents care needs. They don’t care about people. They are liars and do not document incidents in order to hide from the state. The Health and Wellness Director had her nursing license suspended and enforcement taken against her. Leisure care and Empress are fully aware and continue to employ her. It is public record though. It’s so important to do your due diligence. You can go to any commu

The care staff are not properly trained, park residents in front of elevator and leave them there to fend for themselves. When residents push their pendants for help, the care staff clear the call but don’t help the resident. There are long call times when requesting help. Leisure Care as a corporation only cares about filling the building with residents they have no intention of caring for them. They make promises but don’t believe it. They get negative reviews removed. It’s a shame the public

My mother lived at The Empress Memory Care from September 2023 until her passing in May 2024. Within the first two weeks, her jewelry began disappearing, including a ruby ring she had worn daily for over ten years and never removed. Management offered no help or accountability, even suggesting she might have misplaced or traded items, which was not true. Over the next several months, more belongings, including two coats, cashmere sweaters, and all her earrings went missing. During a later mee

Wonderful experience getting my mom in to empress Senior living, thank goodness they had space . it is a very new facility great and the staff is intelligent and very helpful. I would recommend this place to anybody looking for memory care or just a nice neighborhood to live in.

Mom just moved to Empress Senior Living at Laurelhurst Assisted Living and Memory Care. It's a facility that was just built a few years ago, and their staff is wonderful. I spent many, many days there with my mom. They are very professional and good. The food was very good, too. In memory care, there are a lot of people who are not very high-functioning, so they don't do a whole lot of activities, but the value for the money is pretty good. It costs $6,600 a month to be in that facili

I was looking fir an assisted living community that was comfortable, convenient and served excellent meals. I found this but what really surprised me was how many friendly, interesting residents I got to know!

Our family couldn't be happier with the Empress. After my mom lost her husband of 60 years, the staff & community welcomed her with open arms and helped her settle in. As a family of medical providers, we have high standards for care. The Empress exceeds all of our expectations on a daily basis. My mom agrees and adds "change is difficult - but honestly, I couldn't be happier here."

A few months ago, our family moved my father from a much larger facility to the Empress at Laurelhurst. It was the best move we could have made. The Empress is a smaller, much more connected community; housed in a light, open and airy space (a beautiful design which maximizes the available sunlight in the Pacific Northwest!). The apartments are spacious, the dining hall is beautiful and centrally located, and the amenities (theater, bistro, exercise and activity resources) are top notch. It even

Over the past several weeks Ive been telling several of my family members about how wonderful Empress Senior Living at Laurelhurst is and how happy Mom is there. Last week we all came to visit Mom so they could see where she lives now. They all said they were impressed with how beautiful and well-maintained the building and grounds are, but they were more impressed by how caring and friendly the amazing staff are to the residents and their families. On one of the mornings the GM was assisting hi

Empress Senior Living was a brand-new facility. It was very, very nice inside. I thought the layout was very good. It had a nice rooftop garden, a nice dining facility, and nice staff. It was also very clean. They had a very nice coffee bar and a nice library with a fireplace. It's just a tough area to get to for parking. They have street-side parking and it's in the university area, so there's a little bit of traffic to get from the freeway over to it, but the people were very fr

I toured Empress Senior Living and it was a great tour. The cleanliness and friendliness were both great, also. However, the facility cost is pretty pricey.

The level of care and expertise on taking are of elderly is horrifyingly bad. Never put a loved one in their care. Their nursing staff is inept, unkind and unfit to care for residents. My Dad was there for month and the decline in his health due to their lack of care was shocking (lead to spending weeks in the hospital and is now living in a different place). [Speculation removed.]

Empress Senior Living was amazing. It was more expensive, but I seriously considered it. It's just that the rooms were kind of small and a little depressing. They didn't have carpet in them. Also, there's only 17 people there right now, so there's nobody in the memory care. They're still trying to fill up the place. They're really new, so they don't have very many peoplel, which made it not a good fit, but again the people were absolutely fantastic. I really, r
