Reviews for Brookdale Foundation House

Friendly Staff, Uneven Follow-Through

Brookdale Foundation House garners mostly positive reviews, with residents and families praising the friendly and caring staff, the beautiful and spacious facility, and the appealing food. However, multiple reviewers report serious concerns about cleanliness (particularly urine odors and carpet stains), high costs with unexpected charges, understaffing leading to inadequate care ratios, promises made during sales that aren't fulfilled, and management follow-through issues. Some families left within months due to unmet expectations, while long-term residents express satisfaction and contentment.

My mother likes Brookdale Foundation House. She thinks the staff is very friendly. It seems to meet all her needs so far. She's not happy about having to move out of her home, but she'll get over that. Basically, everything's fine. She thinks the food could be better. My interaction with the staff has been good. It's a one-bedroom apartment, and it was upgraded before she moved in, so the stove, refrigerator, paint, and carpet were new. It's a very cute, open, airy, brig

The tour I did of the memory care facility of Brookdale Foundation House was more than excellent. They were very knowledgeable about talking with me about my sister's situation and what caused me to come there. I loved the facility, and my sister would love the aesthetics of it, even in the memory ward. I don't have anything I can think of that would be negative about it. They were very knowledgeable and helpful with any questions I had. I checked the dining area, and they were wonderf

This is some of the things I notice that needs improvement. 1) cleanliness, the dining room tables and chairs need to scrubbed down. The hallway smells very strongly of urine. The chairs in the common areas need to be cleaned. There are stained and smell like urine. 2)over all experience is we were promised the Moon and the stars when we signed the contract, we feel like like we are getting smog and gray overcast skies. 3) They need more help with the patients in the AM when they are getting the

The tour at Brookdale Foundation House was good. It was a good facility, a bigger one, and very nice, just out of our budget. They have the dining, the outdoor gardening areas, the common library and main open area, and their little deli bar area. It's a nice place. The girl who helped me, Kathy, was very good, professional, answered all the questions that I had, and did a fine job. It felt nice. It was clean and smelled good. It seemed like everybody took pride in keeping the place up. It

Everyone looks contented and uplifted. Lots of natural light and beautiful and relaxing spaces to just sit and read or visit together. By far, this is the best home I found after searching and visiting several others. Yes, I would recommend Brookdale Foundation House to other families.

The main entrance area was huge and inviting with the library and seating areas. The dining area was nice and the staff took the time to explain things to my folks. They love prepared meals, but it was really cool that they offer casual "anytime" meals, ie, something as simple as a PB&J. If you start independent and then move to assisted care, you don't have to move from the unit that you started in. We also liked that if/when my Mom needs to move to memory care, she won't be in a different

Facilities like senior living communities exist to support our loved ones when they reach a stage in life where they need assistance maintaining independence and quality of life. Our loved ones work hard their entire lives and deserve care, dignity, and the services they are promised and pay for. Unfortunately, my experience with The Brookdale Foundation House reflects a very different reality. In my view, the organization prioritizes financial performance above resident well-being. Decisions a

Very disappointed in Brookdale foundation house. My father lived at Brookdale foundation house for about 8 years. My father had been telling me how much it had gone down hill. I WISH I would have listened to him before he past away 2 months ago 😔. My experience has been very upsetting and disappointing through all of this. Management is only interested in the money and filling the building at all cost. Would not recommend putting your loved ones in this facility.

My father is in Brookdale Foundation House. It is a nice building, they have a nice facility, good food, and the apartments are clean, but expensive. So far, the staff has been very good. They answer any questions, and he's been getting help showering and a little bit of this and that, but nothing major. They offer all kinds of activities inside the building, outside the building, and trips to go out, to eat, to entertainment, to the casino, and all kinds of stuff like that. The food is exc

VENDORS WHATCH OUT! They hired our small family owned company and took a complete advantage of us! They called and scheduled our service to check and fix their 10 washers and dryers but never paid a dime for our inspection and repair though were pretty much willing to fix it. I guess they wanted us to do it for free. Their front desk told us they won't accept an invoice from us via email but ONLY BY FAX. It's 2025 and seems like these folks are still stuck in 1900s... Too far to travel for what they offer. I might be over sensitive to odor but didn’t care for the smell of the place. Maybe caught them on a bad day. I think because of the distance. Time and frequency of visits would be short and not as frequent as something closer.

We toured Brookdale Foundation House, which was very well-maintained, nice, and clean. The experience was wonderful. The staff member who gave the tour, Roxanne, and her experience with us was first class. The rooms were very nice. We have seen the dining area, and it was nice, clean, well-kept, and had lots of scheduled activities.

Mom did not take advantage of social events, but they had a good amount of chances to socialize. They did a good job with a difficult resident.

Nestled within a serene and beautifully landscaped setting, this stunning senior living facility offers an exquisite lifestyle where comfort meets culture and culinary artistry. Designed to elevate everyday living, it invites residents to savor gourmet meals prepared by talented chefs who celebrate both classic flavors and contemporary cuisine. Foundation House housekeeers are totally awesome; they're polite. Everyone who works here and lives here make me feel like family. We are just like a big family. As a resident here I like to volunteer my time in helping everyone, especially in memory care.

The room Mom was put in was to have the carpet cleaned, that was not done. Got charged for days in May when she was not even there. She moved in on [date removed]. The place smells like urine. The laundry system is a joke. Those gals there are very friendly but way to many patients to staff ratio. I go up 5 days a week and try to help with Moms care to help them out. Staff has been great! Not only have the staff been working there for years, the overall turnover has been extremely low. Meaning staff taken care of and they love their job. Facility is large and maintained. Things identify as concerns are corrected quickly to protect the residents. Food and options are good. The staff knows the residents and knows what their needs are. Staff is friendly. Place is clean. I always feel a good vibe when I visit. My mom sometimes complains that the food is too salty, but she has dementia, so it may be a part of the disease (to complain) something to note regardless, to help keep blood pressure down in residents. The consistent price increases in rent seem excessive please do your best to a minimum so we don't run through my family's retirement money. Thx

The entire staff who work daily directly with the residents are outstanding. The past three management team turnovers have solved the core issues necessary for their positions. You can push papers, play the politics and hire until you get a ratio of 1-1 staff to resident and still have the same problems. The main jobs for managers is to TRAIN the existing staff for the two issues faced by the staff who work directly with the residents - dementia and mental health issues. Those are the areas that

My husband moved to Brookdale Foundation House. It's a beautiful property. They got trees all around it and everything was really nice but the food wasn't as good as the other community. It was all very well kept up. They took good care of him. They check his blood sugars, give his insulin, take care of his medications, and make sure that he is eating.

My loved one likes the people there and likes the food. Personal supplies have gone missing at various times. Case of Costco water, case of Costco toilet paper, packets of Honest Wipes, boxes of tissues and handfuls of latex gloves. I would recommend Brookdale Foundation House to others. The up front community fee seemed high, but this is my first time taking on this process in full. The facility is nice. The care that they offer is in a good way that you can pick what you want. Other places didn't offer that. Brookdale is very expensive. Base price monthly will be $[removed] with discount, $[removed] without. Discount only applies for automatic withdrawal of money from your bank account. Make sure that they understand what to expect when couples live together, considered "Independent" and what happens in case of an emergency. Just be cause there is "a pull chord" in the room doesn't mean staff will help. Everyday staff fantastic! The admin ok. Made promises not kept. When had an emergency did not check in. 5 stars all the way around. What sticks out most about Brookdale Foundation House is the staff. They are all very caring, friendly and answer your questions in a timely manner. The grounds are beautiful and the apartments have a great layout to them. Also there is no foul smell! The only thing we smell is good food. I would absolutely recommend Brookdale and always do.

My loved one fell, and had to go to the hospital, and I needed to find a place right away. This community was pretty, reasonably priced, and close by. The sales director and executive director did an assessment and said that they could handle my loved one's condition. They were not able to take care of my loved one, and he ended up going back to the hospital. Overall, it was not a happy experience.

Brookdale Foundation House was a nice place. There are options for a studio type, one-bedroom, and two bedroom. The tour was very informative, especially for a person like me that has never taken a person to a senior home before. They are starting to bring back activities on a smaller scale and overall the staff are very friendly and good to work with. We will say the communication with the administrative team, the orientation process as well as the meals those could be improved.

What we really like about this community is the staff, they are very friendly and activities look like they would be good. However our family member is not one to go out and participate and there does not seem to be any encouragement there. Also communication with nursing staff could be better including the follow through. There was a huge bill the second month and while they said it would be more it was double, there was really no warning for that. That definitely could be improved .

Brookdale Foundation House had a very nice library and some incredible activities set up. Probably out of all the places that I have seen, they were the ones that were very impressive. This community looks like a cruise ship but was not the right feeling that I was looking for. The people did not seem connected at all. A lot of staff walked by and did not say anything at all. Customer service seemed to be lacking but the residents were awesome, engaged and very friendly. The community could use a remodel. Very dark and could use more natural light for the residents.

We visited Brookdale Foundation House. In comparison to the place we chose, it wasn't as new of a building. The memory care wing felt kind of dark and cramped to me, maybe it just wasn't as open. The employees were very nice. I didn't see many activities and amenities in comparison, except they had a spa-type area. It seemed to me that a couple of areas were in disrepair, but it was clean. Brookdale Foundation House is a fairly large facility. When you come in, it's a big gate that you pass through, a driveway that goes in and then loops around, and there's the parking there. Brookdale Foundation House was the first community I've toured, so I didn't know what to expect. It's a nice facility and everything. I just think that it's too far away. The traffic conditions to get there for me, particularly during the busy times of the day, would be an issue for me. If I was closer, I would certainly consider it more. I think they have a pretty good program for their dementia patients as far as stimulating them, their minds, and stuff and keeping them act

I think Brookdale Foundation House takes very good care of my mother-in-law. Even though she has dementia, she still has some ability to get dressed and use the restroom. The things she needs assistance with, I think the staff was attentive to that and they were friendly. Food is good. Communication, overall, is good as well when there's an issue with my mother-in-law. They make sure to reach out to my husband so he's aware. There's a couple of dining rooms, and I've only b

We chose Brookdale Foundation House because the rooms were pretty big and the location is not on a main street so it is nice and quiet and surrounded by trees. We have not seen any administrative staff since we have moved my mom in here. They were very involved in the beginning. activities very limited due to covid but they are trying to open things back up as we are allowed. I think once there is more to do, it will be perfect fit for my mom. I would recommend to others looking.

Our loved one is in an independent village, and the house keeping comes once a week. Everything is well maintained, everyone we have spoke with over the phone has been very friendly. The activities are still limited but they are tying to bring them back. Even during the pandemic they put in effort to keep the activities going, like playing bingo.

Management is upfront and open to conversation. communication is good between the staff and our loved ones, they keep us informed and up to date. The community is neat and clean and the staff is really friendly. I would recommend this community based on my experence.

My Mom lived at Brookdale Foundation House for a little over two years. She started as independent living, then we changed her to assisted living and in July 2020 we moved her to their memory care area called "Clare Bridge". Mom's dementia got worse due to the isolation from covid. When we moved her from her assisted living room to her memory care room, her room was very dirty, with mold growing in glasses in her sink, about a dozen meal boxes that had been delivered to her becaus

I visited Brookdale Foundation House, and it was great. They were very friendly, the place was really clean and well organized, and the staff was really great, too. It has pull cords in case of emergency, it has Wi-Fi, and it is TV ready. He is getting a studio apartment on the first floor, and he loved it. The bathroom was great because it has a walk-in shower. It was very spacious, and the kitchen was great, too. It has a small-sized kitchen, but it had a full-size refrigerator in it. There wa

Everyone is very friendly and happy and smiling. Once they get activities going and Covid is over, I think it’s going to be very good. It's definitely been a struggle, but they've been really responsive to me. They clean the independent cottages once a week. They're good people, our only problem was with a resident ambassador who is kind of doom and gloom. But the facility did address the issue for us. The food looks pretty good, but my loved one says it’s too salty, and pretty heavy (not

I was very impressed With BrookDale Foundation House. The staff were very friendly and [name removed] the sales manager was very nice and answered all my questions. I ate lunch and the food was very good. The rooms were a good size and I liked the lay out. When I first walked in, I felt like i was walking into a lobby of a nice hotel. I will probably set up a lunch with my dad this week. The only draw back is, i don't know if i can say this right, but its not necessarily cozy or home like. I wil

We are enjoying our tidy cottage. It is well maintained and feels like home. the dining experience is worthy, and it offers an excellent time to meet with friends and acquaintances. Our family has joined us here for meals and brunches often. And, best of all is the opportunity to enjoy outside activities. The luncheon dates, museum tours, jazz concerts and theater opportunities are great. Most of all, I appreciate the constant willingness of the management to listen to needs and suggestions

[Name removed] was somewhat helpful, but felt very pushy. Our tour only included a walk thru of 1 apartment right off parking area and a view of activity calendar. We're were "told" there was a drinking room, activity room, laundry room and courtyard, but were not able to see any of that because there were residents there. Very unsatisfied.

Brookdale Foundation House is a wonderful, clean, and well-kept place. It is a very busy place with a lot of residents, but they seem to handle them all very well. My friend has her dog with her, and there's a dog walker. It's all been very good. They have a daily calendar of activities, and she's really looking forward to going to bingo. They also take the residents to outings every week. They took her to her doctor two miles out of the allowed distance, which I thought was reall

My wife and I toured here when we were originally looking for a new place to live. They were very nice and at one point we were even thinking of moving in to one of their one bedroom apartments. However, they didn’t offer memory care which is something that my wife would eventually need. Just from what I remember seeing, it looked like they were keeping up with everything. We were able to try a meal there and the food was good. Overall, it wasn’t a bad place. We just didn’t choose them because o

Brookdale Foundation House was very nice but very expensive. I stayed there for almost a year. The rooms were nice and had a little kitchenette. The food was OK. You could order off a menu. The people were very nice. They had trips to different places.

I'm moving in to Brookdale Foundation House. I chose it because the price was better for me. I wanted a 2-bedroom, which I got. They seem to be friendly and open. They have been very good at working with me. I've eaten there several times and the food was good. They had all kinds of things going on, but I haven't experienced any of it yet. The people that I've talked to are very happy. I have no complaints.

Dad has only been at this community for a short time and so far things are going well. The staff are friendly and they have different levels of experience. The community is pleasant looking and is in a good location for us. He likes the food. I think they could plan a little better for the orientation of new residents.

AnonymousSeptember 21, 2017

I had recently taken a tour of this community for my mother and she actually really liked it and we ended up putting down a deposit. We ended up not being able to qualify for the extra assistance my mother was going to need and had to back out of the plan of moving in. I am just disappointed that it took multiple months for my mother to get her down deposit that she was promised back. I actually had to step in and put matters into my own hands because they where giving her the run around.

The hook was good but the follow up has been a disappointment. My mom has been a challenge but I have found that I have to do the conversation initiating, coordination of care etc. Once she was there, I feel lost. When I mentioned the promise of resident escorts for orientation, nobody seemed to know what I was talking about. Feeling frustrated but it has been 3wks. My mother is liking everything so far and is very pleased with how things have been going. The staff have been very helpful with getting her adjusted and acquainted with the other residents in her new living environment. She has been loving all of the food which is a huge plus for my family as well as the Sunday drives they take all of the residents on. Overall this is a great place and I would defiantly recommend it to anyone.

My mother is starting to adjust at Brookdale Foundation House. She isn't getting involved in activities but they do pass out flyers so she knows what's going on. We chose Brookdale because it was very spacious, clean and seemed social when we toured.

My only concern with this community is some of the charges they spring on you. The staff seem friendly. Mom is enjoying some of the daily activities offered. The community is clean and well taken care of. The food is excellent. I would recommend this community.

We chose Brookdale Foundation House because we want to be somewhere in the suburbs of Seattle. A nice woman showed us a cottage that we loved, and we signed the contract. It was a beautiful place. The deciding factor was the cottage and that the location was excellent. We think it suits us very well. The cottage is spacious with bolted ceilings, a full kitchen, washer and dryer, a whole closet, two bathrooms, and two bedrooms. It was being refurbished with beautiful marble countertops. Having a

My aunt is at Brookdale Foundation House (formerly Foundation House of Federal Way). It's a very nice, recently updated facility that recently lowered the prices on their one-bedroom apartments, which made it very affordable for her. She's a pretty active gal, which is great because they have activities and transportation. At this point, everything has gone well, and she's very happy. I would recommend it. She seems to be pretty satisfied with the menu.

A Place For Mom got us launched well into the investigative portion quickly. We did site visits and were so pleased each place welcomed us with open arms. What sold us on Brookdale Foundation House was the friendliness of the staff and the residence. Everyone was happy which is a reflection of the over all operations. We are grateful we found an apartment that our Mom can just stay put over time and as her needs change the staffing will come to her rather than having to think about moving

Brookdale Foundation House was too big for my mom, but it and everybody was nice. They were in the middle of a major renovation.

Brookdale Foundation House was very large, new, and beautiful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would have to find a room closer to the dining area for my sister. My parents liked it very much. It was close to medical care, and, along with that, it was very beautiful and well-kept.

Mom has been at Brookdale Foundation House for about 3 weeks. It was the only one that she really liked. It is very good, and we would recommend it. The staff is very friendly, and the communities are very clean. It’s a couple of miles from the mall; you could take the bus there. They do exercise programs quite frequently, and they do bingo and Wii bowling. They go out on trips; they have shopping 3 times a week.

I tried following up with the director Diane, but she has a hard time responding back to me. I wouldn't say its a bad facility, just not a good fit for my mother. We moved my dad into Foundation House, under assisted living, in December of 2014. Overall we have been very happy with this facility. I didn’t feel the staff at Foundation House was as friendly as the other facility I went to. We were with two nurses as we toured, and they were dealing with a client. What I like best this place is the independence, the availability of all of the activities, food and everything, and the ability to move into assisted living when we need it.
