Reviews for University House at Issaquah

Caring Staff, Broken Promises

University House Issaquah earns consistent praise for its friendly, caring staff, beautiful facility, excellent food, and robust activities program including intellectual lectures and social outings. Most residents report high satisfaction with the welcoming atmosphere, spacious apartments, and sense of community. However, several families report serious concerns: unfulfilled promises after move-in, poor follow-through on care commitments, staffing turnover, slow responses to maintenance issues, and one disturbing account of denial based on mental health after months of planning. A few reviewers note the building shows its age with dated aesthetics and maintenance issues (elevators, shuttle, pool closures), and some mention inconsistent food quality or slow dining service.

It really is a good place, very well run, with caring, hard-working employees and friendly residents who go out of their way to be kind and supportive. The number and diversity of activities and outings are fabulous. My mom has now been there two years and is happily planning to stay.

On behalf of my grandmother, Joy Anderson, who is a resident: After living in three senior communities, it is very evident that University House has perfected the process of enriching senior lives. Among engaged staff, modern facilities, and a host of delightful extracurricular activities, It is a delight to live here. Come and see!

We have been residents for over a year now and University House is living up to all our expectations. As with others we were a little skeptical at first about giving up our house and going into this type of facility but let us tell you: Being served meals at the restaurant daily, having our apartment cleaned, bedding and linens changed, planned activities and trips on a daily basis, entertainment and lectures at the facility and making new friends makes us feel we should have done this sooner.

University House Issaquah smilingly strings you along for months and then just drops you. Plop!! Plunk!! If there were issues with my becoming a resident, those issues should have been brought out in the open and discussed much, much earlier on. Not after much emotional investment, time investment, and financial investment. I had already been given a specific unit number, had made unit-specific purchases, had measured walls, etc. Then, after months of planning and paperwork and socializing a

I have found the facility to have a very nice environment - spaces to play games, puzzles, or read a book. A nice dining room, library. Caring staff. Some months the activity schedule is lacking but they do a lot of fun things - trips to restaurants, theater. Have nice events at facility - bingo, happy hours, lots of music, talks on different topics.

I am thrilled with the decision to move my mom to University House. The staff is fabulous, the front desk is staffed 24/7, I love that they integrate the assisted and independent residents — it brings energy to the environment. The food is fabulous and the rooms are larger that most other facilities. The community fee was also reasonable. Having a doctor that comes to my mom’s room is also a bonus. Dining room is fabulous with a great staff Consierge that seats residents with others based on pre

University House is gorgeous. It's like an upscale hotel. The food is good the restaurant beautiful. The staff have all been really nice. My Dad loves it there. Everything is well maintained.

I CANNOT IMAGINE A STAFF BEING ANYWHERE NEAR AS CARING, CREATIVE, FRIENDLY, AND CONCERNED FOR THE WELL BEING OF US RESIDENTS. The apartments are offered in variety of sizes and layouts. They are clean, in nice shape, and have good natural light. However, the bedrooms are tiny and "full" kitchens have no dishwashers or garbage disposals and have older electric stoves. Some of the more disappointing aspects of this place involve the food and food service (both are decent but inconsistent) and the

We toured University House Issaquah. First of all, when you walk in, the entrance with two enclosed glassware was just incredible, so it's a nice, open, welcoming reception area, and I really liked their rooms better than any. The staff was very thorough and knowledgeable, and very nice and welcoming.

The place felt warm and bright. I went to two other facilities and one was cold and uninviting and the other was dark and had a very low ceiling. University has an inviting entry and felt cozy. In addition the people at University were clear with the rules but accommodating where they could be. Overall, it just felt better.

Living at University House Issaquah has been a wonderful experience. The community has been both warm and welcoming. Nothing is left to chance; the routines, the programs, the transportation, dining experiences all have been refined. There are no kinks to work out. Everyone works together. This starts at the top. There is strong, compassionate leadership. People who care work here. Residents feel valued and respected. All of our concerns are addressed immediately; all of our questions ar

Dad has been at University House for 18 months now. I am so happy with his transition and this is due to caring, attentive & wonderful staff. The activities encourage participation and Dad takes advantage of several of the routine events. The food is great and always accommodating for food preferences. Dad has always preferred « white tablecloth » dining and that is what is provided. We met with OUR financial advisor today and put University House on OUR goals for a retirement communi

My mom has been living at University House (UH) in Issaquah, WA, which is an assisted/independent living facility, for almost one year. Prior to moving to UH, she was living alone in downtown Seattle. Due to covid-19 & related restrictions, many of her friends in Seattle were reluctant to meet, socialize and perform past activities like yoga, go on group walks etc. Thinking that life became too lonely for her and that being in a social environment would keep her active, physically, and menta

The food has been excellent, better than expected. We're very happy with the room size we selected, very adequate size even though it's the second smallest home we've ever had.

My mom has been living at University House, which is an assisted/independent living facility, for almost 1.5 years. The staff are very kind, helpful, friendly, courteous, caring and professional. The front desk is staffed 24/7 and responds promptly to any issues. I am surprised at the variety of meals the dining room offers. Each day the choices are different, and the food is delicious. University House Issaquah was very pretty. It was very esthetically appealing. The ambiance was nice. The rooms that we saw were nice. They had a variety of floor plans, which were all really nice. My dad also liked the place and all the amenities that they had. It was close to shopping and stuff, and he could have his car there. The staff members were really great. If we have to live in "God's waiting room", this is the place to do it. I would definitely recommend this community to anyone who would appreciate intellectual stimulation, meeting very nice people and just having fun. They offered more programs in the way of lectures on music, art, opera, movies, other things that interested me as well as games and trips to local events like the local symphony and the village theater. I love this place and I found that it is a good fit for me. Thank you for sug

University House Issaquah has been an excellent place for my 95-year-old father to live. There is a surprising array of fascinating lectures and discussion groups, which keeps him intellectually stimulated and engaged. The staff is considerate and empathetic to the needs of the elderly. My mother has been a resident here since 2016. Our family, and most importantly she, have been very happy with our choice! The staff are great, the facility is clean and well run, and there are many many activities each day to choose from. They recently renovated the hallways, which now look much more modern. The dining room is scheduled to be remodeled this summer. They struggled at times to find enough staff to do table service in the dining room (as did so many places) and had to revert to bu

The University House appears to be a safe clean environment with lots of appealing amenities. My friend and I came to visit a mutual friend who’s lived there for several months now. He is very happy living there and has met some very nice people( both residents and employees). There are many activities and opportunities for those who reside at University House. We had lunch at University House Issaquah during our tour, which was wonderful. We worked with Dionne who was also wonderful. They had a beautiful workout room, a pool, and incredible art and they had speakers. We loved it. The food that we had there was excellent. They gave us a sheet of all of the activities for the month, they had speakers, movies, music, and education, it was excellent. They had fewer outdoor areas, it was more of a high-rise so the facilities are indoors.

UH is close to stores, medical facilities, restaurants etc. However, the building is next to two roads with heavy traffic at times and it can be very noisy as some cars crank up their engines to climb the hill. This area has declined over the past year. Looking forward to UH restoring staff to pre-pandemic levels. The UH facility is safe and well maintained.

Moving my mom was not easy. Every single employee at University house has made it the best it could possibly be from our tour, to getting her situated, to providing the best activities and always making sure everyone feels valued there, university house is one-of-a-kind and I am a huge fan! Thank you for making our whole family‘s life better by knowing my mom is safe and loved with you.

I was interested in an affordable price as I am on a limited income as a single retired teacher. I also needed a pool for water exercise due to my spine problems. I was especially interested in the college level classes and emphasis on art and music. A complete health facility available to me was also a draw, but I have not needed it much!

University House Issaquah has been a wonderful home for our Mom since moving there at the end of 2015. After some health issues, we were looking for a home where she could be "safe and this facility provided that in all respects. Our Mom did pass away recently at the age of 99, but the past two plus years of assisted living provided the best possible care, with a large variety of services and levels available. We thought the price was too much, especially considering it was an older, dated facility. It felt like the 80s and didn’t offer as much as other places we looked at. So the value wasn’t there. The people were really nice, and they promised they were going to update the facility. The rooms just felt closed in. We ended up elsewhere with higher ceilings and overall a newer, nicer, more inviting feel.

My friend moved into the University House Issaquah, and so far it has been great. They've been very helpful with the move in. It is a bummer that it is COVID right now and she is pretty isolated, but that is no fault of anybody else. She has a full apartment with two bedrooms, a den, full kitchen, and two baths. They also have options of two bedrooms or one bedroom for their apartments. So far, the food tastes good.

We went with University House Issaquah because of the location and it seemed like it was a more active community than some of the other places that we looked at. They do offer a variety of room sizes, my mom is in a smaller apartment but it is comfortable for her. I have eaten here and the food is really good. University House has been a terrific place for my mother-in-law to live. She wanted comfort, security, good dining and an attentive staff. She got all that with the great people at University House. She enjoys bridge and other social activities. And she loves the food. University House is ideally located near stores, shops and the many medical and dental offices in the Issaquah/Sammamish area. It has all worked out wonderfully well.

University House Issaquah was my favorite. I liked that it was on a hill and there were some rooms with views. It was a very good location. It was within walking distance to shops. The facility was really nice, clean, large, and modern. They had a lot of activities, like movies, and it was connected with the University of Washington, so they had a lot of lectures if you choose to go. The staff member during the tour was nice, and we liked her a lot.

After a long search and many places we had found the perfect place for my Mom. My mom is in University House Issaqua. The staff is very nice, and she seems to be getting the care that she needs. They have little outings that they can participate in. She goes to exercise class and walks around the building. They go on outings if they want to in a van, and they go shopping. They serve 3 meals a day. There are laundry services, and they can do their own laundry. There is an exercise room and a hair facility, and they do crafts.

I’d like to thank Liz and Albert for their assistance and patience. The process of moving her took a little over one year to accomplish. Location may be a challenge for us, but we are certainly intrigued by this ERA Living property. Thanks

University House Issaquah was not as expensive as the other places and a high rise of at least three stories. They had a lot of activities. I only spoke with one person, and she was very helpful. If you had to go from independent living to assisted living, you didn't have to move to a different apartment. You could stay in the same apartment and just get the extra services, and I thought that was nice. Their rooms were quite nice, large, and had a newer style.

When you walk into the facility, there Is always a nice pleasant atmosphere. The front desk associates and the maintenance man are very friendly. My mother has not been there very long,(close to a month) and is still getting adjusted to the facility. She has been to the exercise class a few times and seems to enjoy that. There is a young man in the dining facility that is very nice, but my mother has mentioned that the service is slow and the food is not hot enough.

I cannot say enough about the great job that is done by all of the staff, and the attention and care that we residents receive. Special kudos to Grant and his kitchen staff for their inventive, nourishing and very well prepared meals. the young servers, the general supporting staff and certainly the professional management give excellent hands on care. University House offers a pleasant, friendly atmosphere where a couple can do as much or as little as one wishes. My most recent career was as an attorney for 35 years. My Corgie dog and I are pleased with the friendly support we receive. Highly recommended by both of us and my late wife of 63 years who passes away here 4 years ago.

Generally consistently very good level of care and services. Once in a while something is not done right the first time or service is slow, but you try to rectify these things. Staff are extremely friendly, approachable and responsive (front-line staff). We'd love to see you change how you answer the phone -- it's very long. Like other reviewers, my experience with the staff was all positive when they were trying to make the sale, far less so once our mom was in residence. Everyone is very friendly but they never follow through. When we moved in there were no light bulbs the bedroom or closet fixtures. After several weeks, my sister gave up asking the staff and put them in herself. Given that the daily cost is equivalent to a hotel, the service is fair, at best. There is a fairly high turnover rate among the staff. Management seems to place a higher priority on the bottom line than they do the compassionate care of residents. There has been no status updates/communication from staff as to how loved ones are doing. Priority seems to be more on bringing in new residents rather than keeping ones already there.

Mom just moved in three weeks ago. She loves it there. The food is wonderful, people are friendly, and she feels very much at home. Mom is very happy, and if mom is happy, I am happy. They have been great to work with. I'd highly recommend University House Issaquah.

Prior to choosing this facility for my parent I received lots of helpful friendly contact from the staff. Once I gave them the deposit and first months rent all contact stopped. It's been over 6 months now and there has been no follow-up from a single staff member asking how things are going for my parent there. My other complaint is the dining room. If you want to have a meal with your loved one alone, you must make a reservation in advance. Otherwise, you will be seated with other residents

We're happy we found this place. It is a good location for our family, close to everyone, and they seem to take good care of the people who live here.

Yes the price is on the high side but we moved mom in after receiving promises of great nursing care, supportive staff and accommodating personnel. HOWEVER, sadly after moving her in it became apparent that due to the high turnover rate and in some cases poorly trained personnel, those promises were made to "make a sale", and bring in tenants. After the move in fee and rent is paid, any other service provided is an extra charge. When a question is asked, the answer is most often, "I'm new he

We choose University House Issaquah for my mother because it is close to my house and is a beautiful facility. The residents have been very welcoming and have reached out to include her in their activities. This facility is best for residents active enough that they do not require a lot of extra assisted living other than the basic one meal a day, housekeeping, and transportation included in the rent. On the downside, there were promises made prior to move-in that were not kept. I was told tha

We went to University House very briefly, and I like the facility, but my mom needed a higher level of care that they weren't able to provide. The facility is very nice. It's very well kept, and it's kind of a higher scale facility. The decorations are nice. It's more focused on independent people, and they donÕt cater to dementia patients. Their apartments are lovely, and the dining area is very nice. I saw the staff, and I thought that they were good, but I feel that they w

This community is a great community who is more at the retirement or maybe the early end of the assisted living would also be okay, but it wouldn’t be a good match for anyone who needed more skilled care. The food is great.

After living in the area for several years, and having relatives who lived in the University House, getting to know the staff and many of people who live here. Knowing the activities and the many good things this place has to offer, makes my arrival like "Coming Home".

My mother has been a resident of University House Issaquah for one year. She loves her new home and is delighted with the employees. Everyone is helpful, cheerful, and very kind. Each and every time I visit, it is a joy. Every person at the front desk is open, welcoming and very warm. I would highly recommend University House to anyone looking for a very special place for their parent.

I visited this facility in January, 2014. They have all the bells & whistles for anyone who can afford it. Very clean, spacious, and lots of amenities. Natasha was a very gracious hostess who candidly answered all my questions.

The staff is extremely friendly and they know all the residents by name. The community is very clean. It seems like the staff members really care about their community and the residents. There are always residents moving around within the community, playing cards, reading the paper or just talking. The atmosphere is just a lot better then the other communities we toured.

We were very disappointed with this community. We had toured and interviewed them previously and were told one thing but once we were ready to actually conduct the move they would not do what they had stated they would. It seems like there is new staffing then those that we had previously spoken to. When we called and asked for an individual we had been speaking to previously they just stated he was no longer with them. We liked the community but when we were ready to move in were just disappoin

My mom was familiar with University House Issaquah and it is close to where I live, so those were the two primary decisions in choosing here. They offer a lot of activities to the residents, plus they have memory care assist.

If there's a place I would want to be, it's definitely in this facility. They seem to have everything here. The amenities include: an entry area that looks like a fancy hotel, saltwater swimming pool, a salon that opens more often, a large dining room and larger variety of rooms configuration. It also has a broader mix of people; active seniors and some using walkers or in wheel chairs. This place has a unique policy, a policy to be actively friendly. If someone is new, one resident
