Dangerous Care Gaps Despite Compassionate Staff
Reviews reveal serious and dangerous inconsistencies in care quality, particularly regarding medical oversight and staffing. While several reviewers praise individual nurses and therapists by name for compassion and skill, multiple families describe life-threatening lapses: unmonitored weight gain requiring emergency hospitalization, medications administered incorrectly or not at all (especially critical for Parkinson's patients), and residents left unattended for hours or days. Weekend and night shifts appear particularly problematic due to heavy reliance on untrained, temporary 'agency' staff with no supervision. At $11,000+ per person monthly, families report minimal personalized care, billing errors exceeding $17,000, and being expected to provide all supplies and even sleep on facility floors during staffing shortages.
We moved our father from the hospital to Covenant Shores and clearly informed the staff about his serious heart condition, emphasizing the importance of closely monitoring his weight. Over just four days, he gained 14 pounds. We visited every single day and reviewed his chart ourselves. The chart showed no significant weight change until the fourth day, when it suddenly reflected a 10-pound gain. No one contacted us. No one expressed concern. Alarmed, we examined our father ourselves and disco
The facility looks beautiful, but the care is deeply lacking. Bedpans are sometimes left full for two days, and call lights can go unanswered for hours. Getting help on the weekend is nearly impossible. Some staff members who are fully capable become impatient or rude with residents who have limited mobility or cognitive function. They often stay hidden behind office doors and act annoyed when asked to assist. Residents should always be the top priority, but too often it seems the staff would r
My Mom has been rehabilitating from a stroke. We have received the best care at Covenant Living. The rehab directors Diana and Jean are extremely skilled at what they do. They also are incredibly kind and patient with my Mom. The nursing staff is also fantastic and have been very attentive throughout the night. Peggy and Josephine have prayed with my Mom when she gets anxious in the middle of the night. Neke, Irene and Mark have done a great job at managing her medications. I have a super d
My husband was moved here for rehab. He also suffers from Parkinson’s . While the campus is pleasant, it is hugely understaffed. They often bring what they call “agency” nurses who are untrained, unfamiliar and unsupervised. These are not regular or permanent staff and often have no interest or knowledge of the patient. They do not admin medicine correctly or on time. Correctly administer medicine and on time is particularly important for Parkinson’s patients. The night shifts is particularly s
I'm writing this review based on my direct experience with Covenant Shores (CS) in hopes it may help folks who may be thinking of moving their loved ones here. First off, the good: the nursing staff is kind and caring. That's a wonderful thing. That's why it's a two star review, rather than one. My mom has Alzheimers, so it was vital that the staff was kind, and that's a credit to them. Now, the rest. For background, we moved my mom and stepdad into assisted living together. They were there fo
