Outstanding Care, Premium Price
Aegis Gardens Newcastle earns consistent praise for its caring, professional staff and upscale amenities including excellent Asian-influenced cuisine, beautiful architecture, and extensive activities. However, the memory care unit disappoints compared to assisted living—residents report inferior food, less elaborate facilities, and communication gaps between shifts. Billing errors and high costs are recurring concerns, though most families feel the quality justifies the premium price.

Inspections(2)
The facility had multiple procedural violations affecting 113 residents, including: expired background checks for staff with 30-day gaps, failure to complete background checks for 5 contracted agency caregivers within required timeframes (up to 254 days late), delayed tuberculosis testing and chest X-rays (up to 31 days late), incomplete care plans for residents with cardiac monitoring devices and medication management needs, uncovered bedrails creating entrapment hazards, and improper hand hygiene during housekeeping. The facility responded appropriately by acknowledging all deficiencies, submitting corrections within 45 days, and achieving full compliance by the January 2025 follow-up inspection with no remaining deficiencies, demonstrating adequate corrective action and systems implementation.
View original report →Investigation identified one moderate violation: facility failed to ensure a named resident received required Nurse Delegation Services when medications needed to be administered by staff, compromising regulatory compliance for medication administration oversight. Three other allegations (forced wake times, forced meals, coerced medication) were unsubstantiated through observations and interviews. The facility demonstrated good baseline practices in most areas and received a statement of deficiency on 10/06/2023, indicating acknowledgment of the delegation services gap requiring corrective action.
