Reviews for Ballard Landmark

Warm Community, Stretched Resources

Ballard Landmark receives consistently high praise for its friendly, caring staff, abundant activities, excellent location in Ballard, and bright, clean modern facilities. Residents and families appreciate the strong sense of community, wellness programs including a saltwater pool, and the quality of life improvements residents experience. However, concerns emerge around understaffing that stretches caregivers thin, inconsistent administrative follow-through on billing and communication issues, occasional housekeeping problems, and the facility being better suited for lighter-level assisted living rather than high-care needs.

The nutrition and exercise program were outstanding. The rooms were small and dull. The entry halls were quite noisy.

The residents clearly had a genuine appreciation of each other. They were happy with the activities, their apartments, the food, the caregivers, and the location. The common spaces are brightly lit and enthusiastically occupied.

Staff are competent and responsive, wide variety of activities, food is healthy and fresh, apartment is a large 1 bedroom with a view.

The residents are super-friendly on the whole. It is impossible to have a ride in the elevator without a welcoming greeting from someone. The facility/staff are mostly accessible and responsive. It varies with the individuals. The person ([name removed]) who talks to possible new residents is excellent. Above and beyond. Same with the general manager ([name removed]?). The desk staffers vary depending on their personalities, from great to adequate. The Assisted Living director is A+, but overwor

We picked them because of the friendliness of employees and residents; and activities avail. I would recommend to others.

We could not be happier that we found Gencare Ballard for my mother. Her quality of life increased dramatically from her previous situation. She has blossomed socially, physically and emotionally. The staff is caring and attentive. The range of activities and opportunities are diverse and engaging, both in-house and around Seattle. We give our highest recommendation!

While Ballard Landmark is a nice facility, anyone that truly needs assisted living may find it lacking. While the staff is amazing, they are stretched very thin to the point that the residents may suffer. In repeated letters to the on-site management, these issues have not been fully addressed. If you are looking for assisted living "light", this is probably as a good a place as any.

My dad was a past resident of Ballard Landmark. It's excellent. It's like being on a cruise ship. It's very very clean. The restaurant was my dad's favorite because he could get 2 to 3 meals a day. And they had a menu. It wasn't just a set menu. He could choose what he wanted to eat. The staff was excellent. They were great. They have a pool, a gym, and a beauty salon. They have a shuttle that will take you on your errands. They have movie nights. They'd have a li

I would highly recommend this community. The only downside is parking but the staff always greets everyone and knows family members of the residents. Staff is always willing to assist if there is a concern with a resident and a family member cannot arrive in time.

Housekeeping is good. On the independent side where we're at now, they are moving to an a la carte or market basket approach. Housekeeping, meals, etc are added to rent. So far, activities are not extra. That makes sense. I would recommend, based on our experience so far. Folks who have been here for a few years seem to think it was better back in the day. Better food, mostly. We tend to keep to ourselves, so movies, etc don't affect us much. Trying to please a bunch of cranky old people has to

We're in Ballard Landmark. We looked at probably six similar locations. Of the other six we looked at, this is the one that was the most appealing. We liked the fact that it had a lot of organized activities for the residents. It had an indoor swimming pool. The meals were very pleasant. We like the meals they've provided. Our apartment is small but adequate. There's a gymnasium and a nice gathering room in the main entrance with comfortable furniture. The staff is very welcoming

We toured Ballard Landmark. The community seems nice. We were treated pretty well. The person giving the tour was pleasant. They have a swimming pool, a fitness center, and planned activities. Their dining option is open all day from 7:00 to 6:00 p.m. The physical appearance was good.

I went to Ballard Landmark. The people were all very, very nice. I think they had a pool and a dining area and everything was okay. The people there seemed to be quite feeble. Which is a good place, that's fine. But we're not feeble people. So that was a factor in our decision. But I could recommend it to people that maybe needed more assistance. Everyone was very nice. They showed us one and two-bedroom apartments. They had a beauty shop, which was nice. They had a beauty salon. They

I have been living here for a few years now and I really enjoy it. They have lots of activities you can attend if you want to every day. They also have many fitness classes each day, I try and attend as many as possible. I also really enjoy walking around the ballard neighborhood with the escorted walking group or by myself.

The light and brightness of the interiors, the cleanliness and the modern feel all stood out to us at this facility. The Ballard Landmark would be the kind of place I would love to live in when I retired. Great location, great facilities, great looking rooms, friendly staff. My loved one ended up needing a higher level of care, but this place really was great in trying to work with us and help find a solution.

It seemed like a great place. The facility was lovely. The location was great. It was a good experience.

We were SO EXCITED to get our Mom into the Ballard Landmark! It was not as our friends had told us. Mom started Assisted Living in [date removed]... now it's almost [date removed]... they billed her for it but and she did not receive the care, a missed communication between the staff. They promised an accounting and a credit then didn't do it. The kicker that finally made us decide to move Mom.. she is in Hospice and Hospice changed her medication, when it arrived at the Ballard Landmark, the fr

Ballard Landmark looked amazing, I really liked this facility. It is a facility that is geared more towards individuals who have a little more independence. My loved one needed a 2 person assist and that was beyond the level of care that they were able to provide here. I was impressed with how honest and forthcoming they were, they really wanted to make a good match rather than just moving anyone in.

We’re so grateful for the beautiful, safe, secure, active, fun, loving environment that our loved ones have enjoyed. The offered amenities are abundant, varied, appropriate, fun, and engaging. We really love and appreciate the staff, who are an amazing “face of the organization”. We recommend Ballard Landmark to our friends for their precious family members. Bravo!

The Ballard Landmark is truly a gem of a place. I sincerely think it is the best residence community out there. The care-giving team is the best of the best and they are like friends to my mom. The food is good, the units are nice (my mom has a patio unit where she tends to her plants and loves it!), there's an amazing wellness facility (including salt water pool). The location is easy to navigate and the Ballard area has lots to do (including regular Sunday Farmers Market). The entire staff

We have chosen (GenCare Lifestyle) Seattle at Ballard Landmark assisted living for my mom because it was close to me. We've seen it and the staff is good. The place is very nice. They only had so many options open. The food is good. I also know other people who are there, so that's why I know about it.

I have a friend who lives in Ballard Landmark. They have a pool, an exercise room, a coffee area for gathering, a little garden outside, a nice dining room, a good fireplace, and a library. It's very nice. The staff was very nice. They have outings and everything. From talking to my friend, she is always busy doing something.

We visited GenCare Seattle Ballard Landmark and we loved it there. We had a great tour of the independent living area. There's a farmer's market all year long right outside the backdoor, and it's near the Locks, which has lovely walking areas. They also have assisted living, and memory care associated. It's excellent in any way, if it were in New Hampshire or Vermont, this is where we'd go. It's a lovely community. The price is about $6,000.00 a month. The person wh

My Mother-In-Law really likes it at this facility. In the beginning, we had to be assertive because the staff members weren’t as organized in getting her care set up. It took a little bit for them to get everything together to provide my Mother-In-Law with assistance bathing and doing laundry. They do offer a lot of activities like exercise groups, bingo, karaoke, and live music. Their services are an a la carte menu and the housekeeping staff comes once a week to clean her room. I love this fac

The Ballard Landmark has a saltwater pool, an exercise room, and a trainer that works with people. They've really helped a friend of mine. It has a library, and it seems more connected to the Ballard community in a more intentional way. It seemed to offer more opportunities for going to the theater downtown, the symphony, and things like that. I've eaten there before with a friend and it was very good.

My Mom was at Ballard Landmark for 5 years and the experience was absolutely wonderful. Her eyesight was failing but she was able to take advantage of the pool, a personal exercise class, and the many musical/social events put on by Ballard Landmark staff. The food choices were always fresh and delicious and the restaurant staff went out of their way to make her meals easy to manage, despite her blindness. Mom's caregivers were simply outstanding - the nursing staff and compassionate care s

We toured this beautiful community. The staff was nice and caring. We did like that they had a lot of different type of care. We liked what was offered with the menu and the activities. We think that this would have been a good community for us to move into. They did not have the type of care needed. Families might want to tour this community for the care of a loved one.

Hello. Due to busy schedule and personal reasons I usually don’t make the time to review services and product however I feel it is important in this case. Recently and unexpectedly my mother’s senior community gave short notice for all residents to leave. Needless to say my mom was in shock that community that was to be her final home was not the case. Time was short and our family was forced to find a senior community for her to call home and receive the care she required. Our close

I was able to take a tour of this place and I think that they have a nice community. the location is in a good place near stores and a good view. The staff was nice and seemed to be caring. This just was not the place for us.

I liked Ballard Landmark very much. It had very friendly people, a wonderful location, and a little therapeutic pool for exercising. There were a variety of apartments available at good prices. We liked the dining facilities. Of the places we visited, we liked this community the best because it seems more like what we’re looking for in a facility.

Not long ago I located to the Seattle and immediately fell in love with the culture and weather. Soon after my events beyond our control our father needed additional care and a new start on life. Not having any experience in finding a senior care community I was nervous and unsure where to turn. By chance I was having coffee in Ballard and overheard two distinguished women talking at the table besides mine. One thing led to the other and I felt comfortable asking where they lived, in which

The Ballard Landmark is the best thing that has happened to my Mom. She is so happy with the staff. They are very helpful and courteous! They decorate continually and always have interesting functions and day trips. There are also theme nights in the dining room. The residents are also very nice. I enjoy visiting because the staff gets to know you. We couldn't be happier. The walking area around the building is great too. Old Ballard is very interesting and my Mom walks to her Dr and the grocery

Everything is going fine at Ballard. So far, we do not have any problems with the staff. They seem to be doing a good job and everything is great. Overall, this has been a good experience so far.

The facility is nice and the location is wonderful. Food is of a pretty good quality (although I have seen the quality decline over the past year). Staff is friendly and seems to try hard, but there just aren't enough staff there. The answer to any complaint is "we're doing the best we can!" The seem to over-promise and under-deliver. Things take forever to get fixed when they break--the theatre was out of commission for months when the projector broke, the pool was closed

The staff at Ballard was friendly. The facility was in a very interesting neighborhood, so there would be a lot for seniors to do. The pool and gym area were really nice. The apartments were fine, and the main community areas all looked very well cared for, but the hallways and the apartment looked like they needed a little more attention. Their menu looked a little more red-meat-heavy, but they talked about how all of the vegetables they cook were really fresh.

The Ballard Landmark would get a five for cleanliness, activities, and convenient location. They have a good bus service, they have activities, and the food is very good. They have arts and crafts and other activities, and they are located a block or two from the hospital, so those are all pluses in my book. It was very clean.

Caring106984250September 13, 2015

I used to live at the Ballard Landmark. The food was good. They have switched directors; the prior director was very good, and the current director was running it like a military unit, so I was not impressed. They had a pool there that we used to exercise -- water walking. The pool hasn't been in operation for people to walk for over a month, and the prices were very high. I had a 400 sq. ft. studio at the Ballard Landmark, and it was like a hotel room. They had sliding glass doors facing w

At the others I have gone to, they sent me information about different events that they are having after I visited, and GenCare hasn't done that. They didn't offer to let me eat there, which is important because you want to know what the food is like. I didn't get a good feeling of the place just walking through it. They need improvement there. Their marketing staff I didn't think was good because they didn't give me a chance to get a real feeling of what it is like ther

I’d give The Ballard Landmark a top choice. It’s beautiful and well-located, and it is a very-close-to-new facility, so it has a lot of the attributes that having a brand new place has. It’s very light, and being in a place that has a lot of natural light appeals to me.

We chose Ballard Landmark because my aunt knew about it. It was new. It had high ceilings, and the location appealed to her. It is very modern. I would like to live there. It was so comfortable and updated, it smells great, and there were a lot of happy people sitting around the lounging front desk. Everybody that we met was very helpful. My aunt hadn't moved in yet, but there was no pressure. She was able to put her name on the list and place money down into it, and when a two-bedroom on t

Ballard Landmark have done a great job getting me the sort of physical therapy that I need. I get the one on one attention and care that I need, which is very important. The food here is great, as are the wait staff. The worst thing about the place is the housekeepers. There is a high turnover rate there, and there have been a few things from my room that have gone missing. Some of them are good, but some are questionable.

Excellent facility. Very professional experience with Mindy Byers. I liked the facility, the environment, the cleanliness and the comprehensive services offered. The only problem is that the price point for the Single apartment was not very much less than what we are currently paying at The Summit. Therefore with anticipated services running $ 1000.00-1200.00 per month, we would exceed our budget. I also felt that I'd like to have my father in an Assisted Living facility a little closer to the N

We had a tour at Ballard Landmark. It's a high rise. The rooms were neat, clean, and very nicely appointed. The staff was very friendly. We even ate there; we had salmon. It was very good. They have exercise classes, book clubs, game nights. They have all those standard things that most assisted livings have. They take their people out to museums and plays and things like that. I really liked the rooms. I did not like the price.

Caring7643June 21, 2013

The Ballard Landmark has nice rooms. They try to have organic or at least whole foods. They also have exercises.
