Warm Staff, Understaffing Concerns

Cogir Queen Anne is a remodeled, attractive facility in a desirable location near Seattle Center. Most residents praise friendly staff, abundant activities, good food, and a welcoming community atmosphere. However, a vocal minority reports significant concerns: high staff turnover, inconsistent responsiveness to call buttons (sometimes 45+ minutes), declining food quality after chef changes, understaffing issues, rapid rent increases, and corporate billing problems. Several families note management turnover makes promises unreliable, and a few express deep regret over choosing this facility. Limited parking also frustrates visitors.

I am writing this review on behalf of a resident, Nancy Prevost. I am a concierge here at Cogir of Queen Anne. I write today to compliment Ian, a truly kind employee here at Cogir of Queen Anne. Young as he is, he seems to have an innate understanding of working well with not just older people but with all people. He was very helpful to me and my son in bringing in a chair from my son's car on a very rainy day. We had no equipment in order to simplify the job but Ian immediately leapt from be

I recently visited Cogir of Queen Anne to complete an annual Medicare home visit, and I was extremely impressed from the moment I arrived. Ian was at the front desk, and his kindness, professionalism, and positive energy immediately stood out. He was welcoming, attentive, and created an environment that made it easy for me to do my job effectively. It is rare to encounter someone who demonstrates such genuine warmth and dedication, especially in a busy care setting. Ian’s demeanor reflects a hi

They personify an environment of comfortability and safety.! You soon become a member of an organization and club in which you become a valued member, and respected by the new acquaintances you will farm and the members of the staff that personify the caring attitude of the community. My family member lived at Cogir. Died there too. Horrible place. All of the money goes to corporate people and/or remodeling. There is 1 visitor parking space available. The staff is great but it’s horribly understaffed. Management changes frequently so if 1 promises you anything, it’s worthless. You pay more to have your food delivered to your door than it would cost for Uber Eats and may take hours to be delivered. Don’t leave your family member her unless they are fairly self mobile and can g

This is my fifth month living at Cogir of Queen Anne and I am really enjoying it. My apartment is spacious and comfortable, plus it has a view of the Seattle Space Needle! The staff is genuinely kind and caring. My social life has improved and I have met many new friends. The Sunday scenic drive is my favorite! I am grateful to be living here.

My 96 year old mother has lived here for over 12 years. Resident care taff members are attentive and diligent in making regular wellness checks. Nursing staff is just as attentive, they have alerted me whenever they detected issues that might require medical attention.

I like it here at Cogir of Queen Anne Senior Living. I start my day early and usually wake up around 7 o’clock. Several days a week the staff help me with my showers, which makes me feel refreshed and ready for the day. My family visits me as much as they can. I have three daughters and a son, and it means a lot to me to have their support while I’m recovering from my stroke. I’m hopeful that when I continue to get better and my husband gets a little stronger, I’ll be able to return home to liv

I have had the pleasure of living here at Cogir for a number of years, and it truly is a great place. I feel very comfortable here, and I really enjoy spending time in the lobby where there’s a circle of chairs and people naturally come together to visit and connect. Even though I don’t always remember everything, I genuinely enjoy talking with others and being social. I’m an early bird, so I’m usually one of the first people down for breakfast each day. I absolutely love it here at Cogir of Queen Anne Senior Living. The food is delicious, and the dining room is one of my favorite places—it’s a wonderful spot to mix and mingle with other residents and the staff. The staff here are truly exceptional: kind, friendly, and always easy to strike up a conversation with. They really make this feel like a welcoming community rather than just a place to live. As a dog person, I especially appreciate that Cogir of Queen Anne is a pet-friendly community.

I’ve been at Cogir almost seven years now, and it’s truly been good to me. Having lived in the Queen Anne area for years, it’s been wonderful to stay close to the neighborhood I know and love. I still swim at the Queen Anne Aquatic Center through their senior program, which keeps me moving and connected. The food here is really nice, with plenty of variety—this morning I enjoyed blueberry pancakes and eggs. I also like that I can choose which activities I want to participate in. Lately, I’ve es

I really love it here. The food is excellent, and I especially enjoy the variety we’re offered every day. The people are truly my favorite part—both the residents and the staff. I enjoy the simple moments, like chatting with [name removed] while she’s cleaning my apartment. I also like taking part in some of our activities. It all makes the community feel warm, welcoming, and like home. My daughters come to see me here, it's great!

I have only been at Cogir of Queen Anne a short time, but I already feel right at home. I love the meals here—it's such a treat to enjoy delicious food without having to cook or clean up. It gives me more time to read the newspaper and relax with the wonderful friends I’ve made. The activities are fantastic too. I like having a full list to choose from each day so I can pick what’s meaningful to me. I’m still very independent, and I truly enjoy the people, the staff, and the warm community here.

Mareliene CDecember 18, 2025

I love the activities, meal and very kind staff. I love the community.

Joe SDecember 17, 2025

I really enjoy the community here. In fact, I like it so much that my daughter and I referred someone who is now a new resident. I previously lived in an assisted living community in Michigan for four years, but moved here to be closer to my daughter — and I have no regrets. Everything has been very nice. I did have one small issue recently with some laundry being misplaced, but the team is actively working to locate it.

After several recovery stays, I chose to make this my home at 90—and it’s been wonderful. The food is delicious, everything is kept spotless, and I love my daily walks both inside and around our beautiful community. The staff are friendly, my family is close by, and life here is truly easy and enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Nancy MDecember 16, 2025

I really enjoy the community here. Even after selling my car and house, I’ve found a wonderful home. My daughter and son-in-law visit often and even join in our activities—especially happy hour! The breakfast team knows exactly what I like each morning and treats me so kindly. I love the activities, both here and out in the community when the weather is nice. I definitely recommend it.

I like it here. I am very happy here. I love my apartment and the people are nice. Everyone comments how cozy it is. I moved in [date removed] and moved apartments once within the community when a more desirable layout came available. I love our happy hours and being social. I enjoy doing puzzles and being the unofficial greeter.

Kazuko SDecember 16, 2025

I have independence here. It is fabulous to have this community to call home! The other residents have become my friends. So many of the staff are friendly, easy to talk to and very helpful for just about anything. I am telling so many of my friends who I want to live here with me. The next time you think of Senior Living, think of coming to my new community. You won't regret it.

I just needed treated my the nurse because I injured my elbow. The care team takes really good care of me when I need it. I want the food to get a little better. I love the burgers though. From time to time I get to enjoy the activities that are offered. They keep it clean here.

Sandi MDecember 16, 2025

The meals here are terrific- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It makes me happy that I can have my cat with me in my apartment. My cat is family to me. The dining staff are polite and smiling and I'm impressed with the meals. The cleanliness of the community is something I appreciate. Its nice to not have to clean anymore. Its a great place. It was hard leaving my home, but this is my new home. There are lots of places to read, which I enjoy doing.

My mother is in assisted living program. I visit daily. Staff is attentive and clearly concerned about her welfare. Wellness checks are frequent. They often seek me out to inform me when they notice she has issues such as a minor cough or complained of a source of discomfort.

I love it here at Cogir.I have a motorized scooter that works well in the elevators, and I can get everywhere from the dining, to the activity center, to my apartment. I can go on the bus with the hydraulic lifts. The food is great! I made good friends here.

There has been a huge amount of staff turnover at Cogir of Queen Anne and this has led to a myriad of disappointing things for my mom since she moved in there. One of the big ones was that when we toured and left our deposit their chef was highly touted and their food program was impressive. Shortly, after moving in, they replaced the chef and kitchen team, and the food has been abysmal ever since. My mom complains about it daily, and there have been no changes. They are also understaffed, and t

I can keep eating food at Cogir of Queen Anne as it is good, with dessert too. It always tastes good and it looks good when it arrives at my table.

I love being here because it is geared towards accommodation of the needs that I have. The bathroom is designed for mobility issues like me and I like the apartment. I used to live on the other side of Queen [name removed] and so was very familiar with the neighborhood. I find the area to be very walkable and easy access to many entertainment options. It's a great place to live. I was particularly happy that there is a decent sized male population and also that it is a pet friendly community. I love animals and even though I don't have one of my own, I get to love on everyone else's dog.

I've lived here for 3 years. I really do like it here, most of all the residents. It's a class act place. I try to greet people who are new, make an effort to know their names. There is a true uplifting sense here, a spirit of health and happiness.

The move-in experience was seamless and everyone was very helpful. I would recommend Cogir Queen Anne as a retirement venue. The location is superb, near to Seattle Center & the Space Needle. The neighborhood is walkable (even in the rain) and there are many eateries and a QFC supermarket nearby. The move-in experience was seamless and the staff very cordial.

Cogir staff are very sweet and accommodating. However, there were some initial issues with getting them to take over medication management (my grandma's only assistance). Overall it's worked out okay though. The management does a good job there, overall. - The apartment is smaller but we knew the larger 1 bedroom units just weren't available off the courtyard, and so she chose a smaller unit to prioritize her dogs. This is a First Class establishment. Bright, clean, and friendly with a beautiful outdoor garden space. We felt welcomed as soon as we walked in the door. The location can’t get any better - one block to Seattle Center.

Very nice, good activities. Beautifully decorated (newly remodeled). Rooms are done well aesthetically, bathrooms bright and light. Main drawback is that they are slow to answer help requests, which, I believe is the case everywhere today. Excellent administrative staff.

Admin staff - there are issues with turnover. Meals/dining - although my mom cooks for herself, but when she has eaten at the dining room, she thought it was just ok. Apartment size is great. Lots of different activities- my mom likes the lunches out, happy hours, trips to casino, tulip festival, museums etc. There is always something going on.

The location of Cogir at Queen Anne is good because it is close to Seattle center which offers access to activities. It is not located near heavily traffic streets consequently noise it’s not a problem. I especially like the food that is served here. They were good choices. I especially like the soup for my lunch time. Finally there are many choices for walking outside. Besides going at Seattle Center,. I usually get a good walking in every day.

The staff doesn't always respond when called. The new head nurse they hired a couple of months ago [name removed] is wonderful and a good communicator. The happy hour entertainment that I've seen isn't good. Seems weird we pay so much and they don't even supply toilet paper. Seems like they wait too long to replace carpets, kind of run down. They don't do a great job of cleaning the apartment.

I was excited to have my family member live at Cogir Queen Anne. The price went way up within just a couple months based on reassessment of care, there have been issues with responsiveness of staff, and due to the unfortunate passing of the chef, the food and dining experience has gone way downhill. Staff and management turnover is extremely high. I regret choosing this facility for my family member and will be looking for a new place within the year.

Overall it has been great and cleanliness is great. Don't know about executives but good general staff, cleaning staff, maintenance etc. Meals have become bland for the most part. Big changes in chef, cooks and apparently budget. Also not enough wait staff. Long waits to place orders and then get food to table. I know the execs say they are hiring more people but... Activities are a high light!!! Great! Might add to note Cogir is updating rooms, the grounds and public areas. It is beautiful.

My relative is in Cogir of Queen Anne. The food is wonderful. It's a very nice atmosphere. However, as their agents, we had to keep track of their care, but their staff has been accessible. Marie GJune 23, 2023

Management & staff is in constant turnover. They hire too many agency workers who don’t know the community or residents & obviously don’t care. Food is terrible. Cleanliness is marginal.

April CollierJune 23, 2023

Too much staff turnover which results in poor assisted living care. Facility cleanliness is inconsistent. No managers on duty on the weekends & services & appearance are evidence of this. Quality of food is marginal

Every month, my partner and I run a trivia activity at Cogir Queen Anne. When we arrive, the activities director and the staff are always engaged with the residents. They stay and play trivia, each at a different team. It’s clear that they know these residents well and genuinely care about their well being. We always have a lot of laughs and it just feels warm. I have been impressed with how the new residents from Northgate have been welcomed by staff and residents. It’s a pleasure to work in t

This is my third residence, the first two in another city. This is the first residence that has an activity program. Inspection of the daily offerings reveals that there is something for everyone. The program allows us interact with other residents., making friends. There is a monthly meeting that allows us to request activities. I requested a Spanish refresher course because many of our aides speak Spanish; the class was taught by a native. Today I had my finger nails cut and I played Bin

Cogir at Queen Anne is always a great experience when I play music there. The staff always makes us feel like family and they are very good at getting everyone involved in the music. The smiles on the faces from the time I get there till the time I leave is assurance that we will always have a good time. I play music at several retirement centers in the Seattle area and it's always a good time coming to Cogir of Queen Anne. Very down to earth and a caring staff and a warm envi

Our Activities Director, [name removed] is professional, personable, and full of energy! She is always available......completing all kinds of activities; drives the bus; knows all residents and is always fun to be around. She completes the monthly calendar with events and outings. Often she cooks a special item for residents to eat in the Activities Room. At Happy Hour she will be serving and dancing with residents. [name removed] is a special lady and deserves recognition.

Matt FMay 24, 2023

[name removed] and the activity department are absolutely wonderful at Cogir Queen Anne. There are always fun activities happening and the genuine sincerely is evident. The activities keep the residents engaged and the energy level high. They treat the residents like they are family. This adds a lot of value to the overall living experience at Cogir. We really appreciate what they do for our family member who lives there

I think we have a spectacular Activities department. [name removed] and [name removed]are full of great ideas for our fun , interesting and eventful things to do, be introduced to and participate in from art projects to music to lectures on film, museum showings, art talks to lunches, happy hours and drives to see beautiful places. The units are nice and staff nice. We were only there about five weeks, but things seemed unorganized and staff were under - trained. I think we're due a refund on unused time, but no reply to my query about three weeks ago.

Two years ago, my wife and I moved from Michigan to Seattle to live close to our son and daughter-in-law. Moving into the Cogir senior living environment was totally foreign to us and we were like fish out of water trying to adapt to a new home and city. Fortunately we were quickly introduced to the Activity Center and the outstanding staff of the Activity Department. Right from the beginning they took us under their very caring guidance to make us comfortable and welcome. It didn’t take lon

There are many staff members of all types. Each one is willing to help with any need, or find someone who can. The housekeeping is good and friendly, the carpets could use a cleaning, though. The meals are good and healthy. I would recommend Cogir of Queen Anne, with these caveats: *In the Assisted Living building where my mom is, there are many infirm folks with varying disabilities. Your clients should be ready for this. *Right now, Cogir of Queen Anne has assimilated many residents from anoth

Cogir of Queen Anne has an award-winning chef. The food is prepared from a local market and whatnot. There are four bowls of fresh fruit that you can have. There are a variety of apartment plans. They're going to be remodeling their front area. There's a fountain and a nice garden. But they're a little less expensive. Their apartments have an air conditioner. You can eat any time from 7 to 7, but they'll have a particular mealtime. The reason for that is that the chefs can pr

I have toured Cogir of Queen Anne several times. It feels well-run, there were people at the desk, people were out of their units, and the place was friendly. The place was very clean. The staff who gave the tour was excellent, they were very informative, there was no pressure, they show you the unit, and they tell you what the prices are. It's pet-friendly, and I have two kitties. They have an extremely excellent chef. They also have exercise classes and walking classes, and they have a th

Cogir is a very clean retirement village that appears to good care of their residents. My aunt, whose in her 90s, enjoys being there, takes part in many activities, and has made several friends. She also very much enjoys the location. She would recommend Cogir to someone else that's looking for a place. My main issue with Cogir is that they appear to be continually short on staff. Some repairs to the building take a long time - courtyard fountain hasn't worked all summer and garage door to park

Phyllis HAugust 15, 2022

My mom has been there since about 2019. She has developed anxiety and agoraphobia during the pandemic. At the same time she needs more care Cogir seems to have lost a lost of staff and desire to fulfill their mission. My mom’s staff do not stick to her care plan, do not make sure she gets food when she is too anxious to come down to the cafe. While I was there she showed me a note that said “sorry no cups”- didn’t juice or coffee to her room because no cups? Did they bring it an hour later after

Overall it has been a good place for my loved one to move to for their safety. There are communication errors with the care services, that could be improved. The hiring of more staff and better communication between the resident and care staff could help improve the overall rating for communication. There is an answer to my emails within 24-48 hours; however, there isn't always a resolution provided by the community to me about my concerns or questions. The food isn't consistent in quality a

As restrictions start to lift in King County, this Community is learning how to embrace the new landscape. I love that family dining is back and that families can start participating in activities again. It was wonderful seeing so many familiar faces last week for our Happy Hour Social. The Elvis and Dolly impersonators, were the best. What a toe tapping fun night. So much fun planned for 2022 and we are ALL ready for it.

MLynn99March 15, 2022

This community is going to take off! My mother-in-law is having a blast with the new activities & entertainment. There is new management there & they truly take the time to listen to what the residents want! She is calling me excited & happier than ever.

rgrgMarch 15, 2022

If you want your loved one to get: consistent care, respect, and be as happy as they can be in an assisted living don't let them go to cogir. My mother never knew the caregivers because they always left. Management was rude to residents and staff. Maintenance issues were constantly overlooked. The food was awful, food allergens are looked at with disdain. All of this for 8000 or more a month.

anonymousDecember 3, 2021

We had a great tour with Cogir of Queen Anne. The facility is absolutely beautiful and the staff were very accommodating. We just felt it was not the best fit based on my parents circumstances at the time but are reconsidering.

John LNovember 19, 2021

This community was fine just too expensive for what we were looking for for our loved ones.

anonymous November 8, 2021

I would advise to make sure that this community is fully staffed before you even consider it. If they are not I would say no. It was just the staffing issue that caused us a problem. they had activities like, work outs, movie nights and outings to go shopping. They had a lot of different things to pick from to keep the residents busy.

anonymous September 30, 2021

We do know they are short staffed but they claim when a resident hits the call button given to them, it will take around 15 minutes for someone to respond but that isn't true it is more like around 45 minutes.

My wife and I are currently at Cogir of Queen Anne. The aides are very good. There are not too many active people here, and I find that challenging, because I walk around the blocks three or four times every morning, and not a lot of people would do that. I bought them a ping-pong table, but nobody has the sprightliness to play. They also have a really pretty courtyard. The room we have is particularly nice because the guy who had it before us had bookshelves built and a counter added to the kit

Review of Cogir Queen Anne Assisted Living Community Greetings! I almost never write reviews but I had to for Queen Anne Cogir. I can't say enough good things about this place. My Mom was in the assisted living building and I was constantly amazed at the level of care she received. Everyone was extra helpful and went out of their way to make sure she felt special. The "care team" members including house keeping established friendships with her and treated her as if she were their own mother.

DaughterJanuary 22, 2021

Since Cogir took over from Brookdale in 2019, the entire place; management, staffing, care, building upkeep and especially dining services and food quality have plummeted. I can not recommend anyone moving in to this place.

Jim AlexanderJanuary 8, 2021

My wife and I were there for over a year. This review will include some of my observations of how Cogir operates a retirement facility. 1. My unit had not been cleaned but did have the carpet removed and replaced with flooring. The cabinets had not been cleaned and personal items had been left from the previous renters. 2. The thermostat never worked properly. I complained about it an even provided a better thermostat. We went through several replacements. Other residents had the same co

The staff was more than helpful, and during the time our loved one was there he really enjoyed it. Everyone there was friendly and on a professional level. We do know they offered a wide range of activities. Before COVID they had movie nights, day trips, and live entertainment come in and play the piano.

We chose Queen Anne because it was a very attractive and we knew that this facility had a medicaid contract which was a wonderful thing. I have only seen my step moms room, she is in a 1 bedroom and it is pretty tight. I have eaten a couple meals here and it was pretty tasty, my step mother is also happy with it. She always says she enjoys the coffee here a lot as well. The current financial lady and head of wealth and management were very helpful and they really take the time to talk to you and

Taking into account of COVID and all the restrictions, they have done a wonderful job given those restrictions. I came to visit this community twice and one of things i liked most about it was the location, which is in the city. I also love my apartment, it has a kitchenette and a washer and dryer in the apartment. They just changed chefs which i am very happy about, before the menu was boring and now they are trying different things which i appreciate. For what it is worth, it is a good place.

We just moved my 93 year old dad to Cogir based on the information we got from APFM. Cogir made it very easy to move dad and assured him he can keep his cat which is why we had to move him from the previous retirement community. He is so very happy which makes me happy! His new apartment is very affordable and with the addition of the assisted living I am confident that he is receiving excellent care. It is light and bright and includes a view of the Space Needle!! My brother found and selected Cogir of Queen Anne Senior Living. We went up there and helped my mom moved in. We saw the rooms, tried the food, and met the staff. The food was very tasty, I had a Reuben sandwich, it was delectable, very juicy, I thought the cheese was melted just right, the bread toasted to perfection, the service was great, and the dessert was delectable. They were restricted somewhat because of Covid-19. They had a beautiful courtyard in the middle of the facility with a fount

Cojir bought this community from Brookdale and nothing has changed in that it is still a wonderful place for my mom and dad. They have a two bedroom/two bath unit. Problem is the billing hasn't kicked in and we haven't paid rent for going on three months for my dad. They managed to deduct rent for two months for my mom from their checking account but we don't know why there is a holdup deducting for my dad or how we should pay directly. I am an independent living resident at Queen Anne Retirement Community. I will be honest, it was difficult initially for me to adjust to a one bedroom unit at this community after living in a 1600 square foot condo in Bellevue. It was not because of anything negative there. There are many activities to participate in, and the activity director is open to suggestions of new activities to offer and new places to go. This year I suggested we go to the Nutcracker, and just like that,

The ownership changed at the first of 2019. The new owners (COGIR Brossard, QC Canada) promised the residents "nothing will change". Unfortunately this has turned out to be false. A number of "cost saving" ideas have been implemented. Before COGIR management arrived there was a stable long serving st

We are very pleased with Brookdale Queen Anne so far. The people are wonderful; very nice, and helpful. [Removed] have been super. The food could be a little hotter, but it is good overall. They have a lot of activities, and the community is very clean. Housekeeping comes once a week to tidy up and change the sheets. Overall, I really think my love one is happy here. My tour of this community was a good one. From what I saw everything looked well maintained. The staff I met was kind and courteous. It was a pleasant experience, and everyone was very nice. There were many factors that played into where to move my father too. My tour went well, but this wasn't the community for us.

My mom will be moving in. We chose it because the food was very good and the dining room had a nice view. The studio apartment was fairly large and had a nice view. The people seemed really friendly and happy. It's close to where I live.

Kenneth417700July 28, 2016

It is very nice. They have one area for really independent people, but for the meals, you have to cross the street. With our weather, that would not be fun. A lot of the rooms have kitchens or kitchenettes, so you could prepare some of your own meals. It was nice, but we didn’t want to be in a separate kind of area. It was a lovely facility, but it seemed so empty. They were very nice and a lot of them knew each other, so that was OK. It was nice, but we didn’t like that hillside; it was just to

My father is living at Brookdale Queen Anne and they are doing very well with him. They were really good at finding a unit that would work well for him. He moved from the country, and they found him one that had trees in the view, a lot of pictures on the wall, etc. The only small criticism I would have is that because he didn't live here in Seattle, there was a little confusion in getting his medication set up.
