Reviews for Hearthstone

Strong Community, Care Gaps

The Hearthstone is praised for its exceptional Green Lake location, CCRC structure, caring staff, and strong community atmosphere. Residents highlight excellent amenities, activities, and physical therapy services. However, one family reported their mother with dementia was declined readmission after hospitalization despite medication controlling combativeness, raising concerns about care continuity and buy-in fee policies. Some reviewers noted sales staff could be dismissive and meal plan inflexibility.

I was in Hearthstone for 4 weeks of rehab following a hospital stay for surgery. I was in a double room but never had a roommate. It was quiet and comforting once I adjusted to the daily routine. Meals were brought to my room by very friendly Caretakers. They also aided me in showering and bathing in the most gentle and caring manner. I was receiving antibiotics by IV administered three times daily. The nurses were very competent and were genuinely interested in my progress. The PT and OT therap

Our decision to move to Cove West at the Hearthstone took several years. We were specifically looking for a non-profit CCRC in order to meet any future healthcare needs. The Hearthstone’s well-established reputation stood out as did the Green Lake location, which in our opinion is unmatched in the Seattle area. All of the community's amenities and the newly-built (at the time) Cove West sealed the deal. Last but not least, we have found true community with our neighbors.

We love calling the Hearthstone our home, as does our dog Dosey, who is SO happy living just one block from Green Lake park. Exercise classes and the well-equipped gym keep us physically active. Music trivia and local excursions are fun. The staff supports our daily living with maintenance, cleaning, rides, trips, humor and kindness. We feel lucky to live here.

A cautionary note based on my mother's experience. She was living at the Hearthstone and developed dementia. Eventually she became combative and had to be hospitalized. The Hearthstone declined to take her back, at any level of care, even after her combativeness was controlled by medication. I had to move her to a different care facility, where she died a month later. One further tip: if you buy into a CCRC, make sure you understand what happens to your buy-in fee in the event the facility decl

The Hearthstone is a great place for my mom. She likes the food. It's the best. The staff is amazing. They are loving, caring, kind, compassionate, and wonderful people. They have a whole department of five or six people for activities, so the activities are pretty organized. There is a patio on the second floor, and the facility is right in front of Green Lake, so it has a beautiful view.

The Hearthstone had a good location, and I got a good impression when I walked in. It had a new building, which was very nice, but you need to walk a couple of blocks to go to dinner in the main building. The public areas were nice and great in the main building. It had a large chapel just off the main lobby. The two-bedroom unit we saw was old looking, with radiators and an air conditioner in the window. We weren't impressed with the small living room and small kitchen. There was an exerci

The Hearthstone was fantastic. I would highly rate the place, but the thing about it is that it’s very expensive to get in there. I have not tried the food, but I know it’s very good because it’s rated very highly. We went there at lunch time and everybody seemed to be having a great time. They have a big, wonderful dining room. The place is very classy, like a 5-start hotel. It has everything, except for a pool.

I've just returned home from five days at the Hearthstone Health Care Center for recuperation of knee replacement surgery. What a wonder! The kind and caring staff offered all I could want during those first few days out of the hospital. The food was great. My Physical Therapist most helpful. This stay at the Health Care Center was a great experience! I want others to know.

Health Care Center review. My very close friend was put in this nursing facility with oxygen. I was in another state, trying to wrap up my life to come and be a caregiver. We communicated daily by video conference. The staff were truly amazing in the center, and not only kept my friend very comfortable and uplifted, they also soothed and reassured me through contact by video conference. I finally met this treasure of people at the Health Center. Well, I cannot say enough about the care and true

The Hearthstone is right in the heart of Green Lake, next to the park, with shopping, restaurants, coffee shops and outdoor activities within a short walk. What a perfect place to retire! Plus, it is a Life Plan Community which means that as you age, you will have assisted living and skilled nursing services available. This community has been in Seattle for 50 years, and remains strong in both mission and finances. I have worked for several retirement communities as a consultant and know perso

The Hearthstone is a pretty amazing continuing care retirement facility with a really positive reputation in Seattle. I have a lot of friends whose parents have been there. It was the most different one of any that I visited because it has this large buy-in amount, and the monthly rent would have been double what we’re currently paying. The rooms were larger and nicely designed with great views of Green Lake and had a lot of light and windows. It’s certainly a fairly fancy place. They have multi

I really liked The Hearthstone. The cleanliness is excellent. It has nice rooms.

The staff was very nice and very attentive. The activities program seemed very vibrant; there were a lot of things going on. In independent living, it seemed that people were really enjoying themselves, and the food was great. The room was really nice. The Hearthstone was an older facility, and the large building, which has nine floors, had a feeling of a dormitory. The independent living apartments were small. In general, everything was fine and clean. It was not as nicely decorated as some oth

The wonderful things about the Hearthstone come easily to mind: 1) Green Lake and its park is our front yard. Almost every morning, I walk along the lake and savor the natural beauty which reveals itself with such abundance in each season. The people I meet, some of whom have become friends, the children, the dogs, the birds, the turtles, the squirrels, and the bunnies combine to create a delight at the start of my days. 2) Area businesses provide a variety of contexts for a vibrant multi-genera

The Hearthstone is the one I have been looking at all my life as an adult. In comparison to the other facility, I think I'd rather be there. It is for profit, and it cost a little more. It has been there for a long time, and I have been looking at that one for most of my life. It is convenient to where I live now. It keeps me inside the city, and I'm not moving outside my comfort zone as far as where I live. The staffs are very nice. It is a first class outfit, and it is a wonderful pl

Because the Hearthstone was within a mile from our house in northeast Seattle, and four of my wife's relatives had lived here, it was a logical place to start looking for our last home. It's across the street from Green Lake and its park--an easy walk for some exercise in natural beauty. A comparison with six other retirement complexes in or near Seattle soon elevated it in our minds. We narrowed our choices to continuing care and non-profit, church-affiliated communities, with bus acc

They are excellent and have many helpful service which are promptly provided. Proximity to Green Lake is a great benefit.

They have caring staff. They have three good meals per day. The place is clean as a whistle. It has a wonderful setting with great views across the street from a lake with a walking path all around. It has a relaxed and atmosphere. We have a lot of exercise, entertainment and stimulation!

Really like the neighborhood. The apartments are very nice -- big closets, nicely remodeled, many great views. Wish there was a complete kitchen. Don't like having to take all 3 meals daily, but overall this is my favorite.

Mr. first told me that there was no room here, then that it was out of my price range. Very curt. Had thought it would be best, but now will never know.

I'll be honest, when they told me where my Grandmother was living, I was not at all expecting what I saw. I think I had it in my head that every "old folks home" was some depressing building with 70's decor and a clinic-vibe. The Hearthstone is not that AT ALL, it is so nice! Seriously, I think her place is nicer than mine. She's got a beautiful room with a balcony which overlooks Green Lake here in Seattle, the view is gorgeous. Each floor has a nice lounge, hang-out ar

The Hearthstone assisted living center in Seattle was a welcoming environment that provided a continuum of care. The facility is located along Green Lake, which provides a number of recreational and fitness opportunities. The staff at Hearthstone seemed warm, caring, and helpful. The bottom floor provided communal areas for eating, as well as numerous scheduled activities. The cafeteria and common furniture seemed clean and up to date, the piano was in tune, and the plaques provided a community
