Reviews for Merrill Gardens at Ballard
Exceptional Staff, Outstanding Care
Merrill Gardens Ballard earns exceptional marks for its welcoming staff, immaculate facilities, and restaurant-quality food served on a flexible schedule. Families consistently praise Community Relations Director Ian Mackenzie for honest guidance and the long-tenured staff for genuine care, while residents enjoy diverse activities, spacious apartments with modern amenities including in-unit washers/dryers, and a prime walkable Ballard location. The sole concern raised by one family was inadequate nighttime staffing for memory care residents, particularly those with neurodegenerative diseases, though the facility excels for independent seniors.
Good news
It is an amazing place! Super clean, kind employees , nicest people I ever met! While I am there a pianist was performing!
My dad moved here a few months ago. We are so happy with the progress he has made while there. Before he moved in, he was living off of junk food and very rarely leaving his apartment. Now, he sends me photos of all the tasty meals he eats and he signs up for almost every activity. He’s socializing in weekly domino games, nightly movie nights, and Friday happy hours. The staff is also really amazing. Everyone is so kind and helpful. They all know him by name and check in with everyone regularly.
when i inquired about merrrill gardens as a possible home for my mother, ian mackenzie, the communications director at merrill gardens, ballard, suggested a nearby adult family home instead, because he thought it would be a better fit for her. he was right. i cannot thank him enough for steering us toward the best housing solution, even though it wasn’t merrill gardens. his honest advice was deeply appreciated during an extremely stressful time.
I was looking for memory care for my mom and met with Ian Mackenzie, the Community Relations Director at Merrill Gardens Ballard. He did a thorough job providing me with the services and benefits of memory care at Merrill Gardens, but he also took the time to educate me on the various options open to my mom for her care, including adult family homes. Ian sincerely cared about my mom as an individual and me as someone who would have to put trust and expense in the care my mom received. He could h
Great building with beautiful features including inviting common areas, warm and welcoming residents, a fantastic management team, and wonderful staff. Offers lots of activities and social opportunities, along with restaurant-style dining. Really happy with the experience so far.
Exceptional Independent Living Experience I couldn't be more impressed with Merrill Gardens and the entire team]! My father moved here 2 years ago and is thriving! His community network is strong, and thanks to the daily chair exercise classes, his balance seems better than ever. The staff here genuinely cares about creating a vibrant, engaging community for all residents. The facility is immaculately maintained, from the beautifully landscaped grounds to the spotless common areas. What stand

We moved our mom into Merrill Gardens in Ballard this summer after looking at a few local places and are so happy with our choice. Ian Mackenzie, the Community Relations Director, was so welcoming, and obviously well liked there. He answered our endless questions, and my mom's apartment was in great shape when we moved her in. The staff is so nice (especially Denise at the front desk). The building itself is so beautifully designed inside and is so cozy and different than other senior living re
For 2.5 months this past fall, I was actively considering moving into Merrill Gardens and was on the waiting list. During that time, Ian Mackenzie was so supportive and treated me almost as if I already lived there. He went out of his way to facilitate me meeting residents and viewing the different sizes and configurations of their apartments. The residents are friendly and welcoming. Even though I ultimately decided against assisted living, I cannot say enough good about Merrill Gardens.
Merrill Gardens at Ballard is the most amazing senior living community we could have ever hoped to find. The staff including Ian, Vincent and the General Manager Lisa, care so much about the residents and family and do everything possible to work with you when there is any kind of issue. When we had to find a new facility because our loved one was seeking exiting issues, they worked with us to find alternative solutions. Our loved one and our family felt welcome, loved and so missed when we l

As a vendor for Merrill Gardens, I'm always pleased by the friendliness and professionalism of the staff! They make you feel comfortable as soon as you walk in. When the time comes, I will definitely consider Merrill Gardens as an option for my loved ones.
Living here for almost 3 years, I find it supportive, accepting, and stimulating as needed. There are activities to chose from but also privacy when needed. The rood service is good. As a vegetarian I always have a good option. The staff is available and supportive. The weekly housekeeping is a boon. Come and see for yourself.
Very confusing/irritating trying to get permission to drive & exit the garage.
Staff is great. The residents are very welcoming. Such a relief not to have to worry about the burdens of home ownership and future increasing needs. I wish every senior had the opportunity to move here.
I have lived in Merrill Gardens Ballard for a little over two years. My sister remarked when she visited me this reminded her of a college dorm. We all have our privacy when we want but there are social options we can avail ourselves of. This is a secure community of peers. There is anytime dining from 7 to 7; one can take a table in the dining room, eat at the bar outside the kitchen area, or take food up to one's apartment. Management is competent and caring, our needs and wants are heard
Our parents moved into Merrill Gardens at Ballard five months ago and it was the best decision we've made. After years of looking for the right place, we feel we've found it. It's open and light design appeals to their Nordic roots, they love the food, and have made friends easily. The nursing team is top-notch and the vibe is warm and familial. We love being able to walk with our parents to Ballard Avenue for dinner, the Locks, the Nordic Heritage Museum and the local elementary school just up
Merrill Gardens at Ballard is the best. Thee food is delicious and all the people are super friendly. My studio apt is cheery and pleasant. Couldn't recommend it more.
The Merrill Gardens system has been so good to our family. My Mom had an interim stay at Merrill Gardens, Burien. It was terrific, and really helped calm her (and us all!) about how to settle in to life in the independent-living and assisted-living realm. Mom moved back home for a bit, and then it became clear to us that the best place for her was back in the Merrill Gardens community. As a half-century Ballardite, Merrill Gardens Ballard was the place for Mom. With Mom now being in an

My parents moved into Merrill Gardens at Ballard eight months ago but after just five months my mother passed unexpectedly. They both really enjoyed it as a couple, and I am so glad my father was able to be in a place with so much support after my mother's passing. The staff was and are still so incredibly supportive, caring, and the members in the community always invite him to an empty space at their table. My father is very active, my mother was a home body, they both found many activities
Our parents have been living at Merrill Gardens for four years now and we are so grateful! I would highly recommend a visit and tour of the facility when in need of assisted living. The location and facility itself is incredible but what makes Merrill Gardens so special is the staff who take such great care of the residents. Lisa is a tremendous leader and her team truly cares about the residents and their well being. I cannot say enough about how lucky we are to have found Merrill Gardens fo
Merrill Gardens at Ballard is a great place for highly independent seniors. It is in a location that is by a lot of restaurants and shopping. My dad was here for about 5 months and it was very poor for memory care. It would also be a poor place for individuals who have Parkinson's or any other neuro-degenerative diseases. I do think if they would have hired night time staff at the front desk, it would have helped a lot.
I toured this facility and I was impressed with it. [name removed] was also very welcoming, no hype, just a down to Earth practical guy who believes in the quality of care.....and food there.
I was lucky to find Merrill Gardens at Ballard while searching for a place for my Mother. My Dad had just passed and she had to move all the way from Georgia. Needless to say she was very scared. Everyone at Merrill Gardens made her feel so welcome! They arranged it so that she never had to worry about eating alone, that she would get out of her apartment to join in some of the wonderful events they have planned, and that all her needs were met. The facility is immaculate, the apartments comfort
It is a great place. We couldn't be happier with our experience at Merrill Gardens, Ballard.
Our family had an in person tour and we were disappointed - the tour got off to a wrong start and just had a bad impression
Our tour experience with Merrill Gardens at Ballard was outstanding. The facility and staff was equally as impressive as the other Merrill Gardens location that we went with. The only reason we did not choose this facility was because they did not have any income qualified apartments.
Merrill Gardens in Ballard did a super job in welcoming my mom into their community. Particular attention was placed in implementing technology access to her room. Staff helped determine problems and solution to getting her home phone number ready to use, acquiring access to an internet connection, and gaining access to Pac-12 television via Fubo. In addition staff helped program her hand-held tv remote to acquire both cable tv and a Fubo app. It was a technology myriad that my mom would nev

Merrill Gardens has been great so far, we are happy with our decision. The location is great for our loved one, he loves to walk and he can talk to this nature area close by and sit by the water, he can walk to the store and to his doctors office. He feels very safe there and the community is always clean. Everyone has been wonderful, and the meals were a big worry for him at first but he cannot believe just how good the meals are at Merrill Gardens.
We love Merrill Gardens at Ballard, my parents are very very happy here. The manager is wonderful and all of the staff are on top of everything. I would definitely recommend to others who are looking.

We couldn't be happier about having our loved one in the memory care unit at Merrill Gardens. MG has been ahead of the curve in pandemic response, keeping safety and resident well being paramount as they've instituted new procedures and routines. The entire staff has gone above and beyond to keep the residents safe, healthy and connected to their families.
My life at Merrill Gardens has been very pleasant. There are more than enough activities to keep me busy, the food is fantastic with many options and the freedom to eat when I wish. All this and the independence to choise what and where I wish to be involved. My dog is in heaven as there so many people who love to pat and both of us take advantage of chearful and bright public spaces. Thank you for providing us with a safe place to live an independent and and active life.
My Mom loves living at Merrill Gardens. She's never lived in an apartment but adapted quickly. She enjoys interacting with other residents, eating when she wants, having a daily ice cream, exercise classes, activities, and her room. I've found the management and staff to be professional, responsive and caring. Any questions, concerns or problems we've had have been promptly and courteously addressed. Michael and Marivic have been joy to work with since MG opened in 2016.

When we walked into this community we knew it was not the right fit for our loved one. The people we met were nice and the community looked clean. This community did not seem to have the homey atmosphere we were looking for. This community reminded us of a hotel.
I am super happy with it. The staff is amazing. The food is amazing, you can eat anytime, instead of set meal times, they have a rotating menu, the head chef is awesome, and very accommodating. I really like that they make the activities as fun as possible, they take them out on activities, and again the staff are so good. I can't say enough about the staff, they do not tolerate error. The head of nursing, [Removed], is I feel, an angel on earth. They really go the extra mile. They have really f
We found this to be an outstanding community for care. A new community with great care. the staff is outstanding and goes out. The food is restaurant style and excellent. My mom is very happy with the meals. She is active with the activities. My mom is active and independent. We would highly recommend this community for great care and value for family members.
